The car’s driver information display screen should flash up warnings, much asit would if fuel or windscreen washer fluid were low. Below is a table of my last recording before starting withthe Redex products, followed by one tank of the heavy-duty Redex Advanced 5-in-1 system cleaner and then six tanks using the regular Redex petrol system cleaner. Adblue® is a clear liquid solution made from demineralised water and automotive urea, which together help to remove hazardous emissions from diesel exhaust systems. Some believe that AdBlue is made from pig urine and is blue in colour, but neither is true.AdBlue is actually a colourless liquid made up of high purity urea and deionized water. Which cars use AdBlue? Once hailed as an eco-friendly alternative to petrol thanks to its relative efficiency, diesel soon lost its lustre thanks to a series of scandals in 2015 known as Dieselgate in which Volkswagen and a number of other manufacturers were found to be cheating on emissions tests. The scam involved the fitment of cheat devices that could recognise when cars were being tested, which resulted in emissions figures much lower than the cars actually produced under real-world conditions. Since then, partially as a result of the rise of the electric car and more economical turbocharged petrol engines and partially due to a total loss of public trust in diesel, sales of diesel cars have been on a precipitous decline. Diesel sales fell by more than 48% in 2021 compared to the previous year and diesel cars are now comfortably outsold by electric models. Each Redex bottle clearly shows how many shots it contains on the front label, with easy guide ‘shot’ marking on the side. Adding more than one shot of Redex won’t do any harm to your car and can give you a more intensive clean, so don’t worry if your pouring isn’t exact. Also, if your tank is larger or smaller than 50 litres you can still use the recommended dosage with same level of performance being achieved.

What is the Mix Ratio for Redex?

The principle with the fuel system cleaner additives is that a clean fuel system will perform more efficiently than a clogged fuel system, much like your heart being able to pump blood more freely through clear arteries than clogged ones. Clogged arteries also mean your heart has to work harder and is at greater risk of heart damage, and your engine is no different. Over time, clogged fuel injectors can potentially lead to expensive engine damage. By contrast, Peugeot estimates that its cars can travel 12,000 miles between refills — the same as its servicing intervals. How will drivers know if AdBlue needs topping up? If you ignore the warning and carry on driving the car until the AdBlue runs out, the car's emissions and performance will be adversely affected. Once you’ve turned the engine off, the car won’t restart if the AdBlue has run out. It’s important not to start the engine or you risk writing off the engine and fuel system. Call a breakdown company or misfuelling service provider and get the car’s fuel tank emptied and flushed out. The easiest solution to this is buy our special 4 or 5l Adblue® which comes with its own easy pour spout. Just attach the spout to the bottle and it will help you to pour it cleanly into the tank. This means you won’t spill any, and you don’t need any other equipment. The bottle can be stored easily in your car or garage until it’s needed.

AdBlue is injected into the exhaust gases after the combustion process takes place and, thus, it has little or no effect on fuel consumption. There’s currently very little data to suggest that AdBlue affects fuel consumption either positively or negatively and any slight increases or decreases are factored in to the fuel consumption figure by manufacturers. My AdBlue warning light is on — what should I do? Since 2015, most new cars with diesel engines have been fitted with an exhaust treatment system that uses AdBlue to help reduce toxic emissions. AdBlue is a specially-formulated liquid that is stored in its own tank in the car and injected into the exhaust system to help neutralise harmful gases that can contribute to poor air quality in towns and cities. You can buy Adblue® from a number of retail partners throughout the UK and online. Please note though, Redex has been safe-tested at 4 times the recommended dose, so please don’t exceed this. What is the Mix Ratio for Redex? AdBlue has been designed to minimise nitrogen oxide emissions. By injecting AdBlue into the exhaust, it neutralises most of the nitrogen oxide gas. The reduces tailpipe emissions and allows cars to pass increasingly stringent emissions tests without drastic hardware updates. AdBlue is a cost-effective, simple and surprisingly capable solution without resorting to much more extreme engineering that would vastly increase diesel vehicle prices. Why You May Need AdBlue It’s injected into the fuel system to transfer harmful NOx emissions into hydrogen, therefore reducing a car’s emissions and making its exhaust fumes more environmentally friendly.

Failing to act on these warnings will ultimately result in the car refusing to start until the AdBlue tank is filled. Can drivers refill AdBlue themselves? In everyday driving the AdBlue diesel exhaust fluid treatment system works automatically and goes unnoticed, but it does require refilling over time. Here’s everything you need to know about AdBlue and how it all works. What is AdBlue? The Redex AdBlue offers complete compliance with Euro 6 standards, ensuring safe utilisation for all diesel vehicles requiring this additive. By opting for Redex AdBlue, you not only care for your engine's performance but also contribute to a greener environment, reducing emissions by a remarkable 80%.Given that your engine creates dozens of explosions every single second, there’s a lot of combustion going on under your bonnet. With any burning of fuel, there will be deposits and debris that forms. Sometimes it’s obvious, like the ash that forms when you burn a log in a fireplace. Other times, like in your car’s engine, these deposits are microscopic, but the principle is the same. Over time, these deposits build up and affect your ability to keep burning the fuel properly. Reliable and Consistent Performance: Users have reported consistent performance with no issues, indicating its reliability and the brand's commitment to quality. Here, a chemical reaction takes place to clean-up the exhaust gases before they’re expelled into the atmosphere by the tailpipe. What Happens if My Car Runs Out of Adblue®? People who have never had a diesel vehicle running AdBlue before may be surprised by warning lights for AdBlue solution, though some will never top-up the tank at all. Dealerships will often top-up the AdBlue as part of an annual service, meaning vehicles that do not cover many miles will unlikely empty the tank between services (only a tiny amount of the fluid is used in comparison to diesel).

Our Story | A History of Redex Our Story | A History of Redex

As we mentioned above, some service stations will have AdBlue dispensers that you can use to refill your tank. Many, too, will sell both small bottles and larger containers should you need to buy AdBlue in a pinch. Nearly all motor factors will sell it, as will most supermarkets. Over about 2,000 miles of mainly commuting in three months, my average fuel consumption using the Redex fuel system cleaners was 31.1mpg. My driving circumstances in that time have been a pretty representative example of my usual activities, so superficially it looks like a 1mpg improvement since using Redex. Our petrol and diesel fuel system cleaners are supplied in 250ml and 500ml sizes. The smaller 250ml version contains two doses / shots and the 500ml provides 4 shots. All that said, however, it should be noted that modern diesel engines are actually cleaner than ever before, much of which is down to the use of AdBlue. For those who drive a large MPV or off-roader or who regularly cover high mileages, a diesel car still is a viable alternative to a petrol or hybrid model as it is for those who can’t yet make the switch to an electric vehicle. Thanks to AdBlue and the latest generation of cleaner diesel engines, it’s not as environmentally toxic as it might once have been. The latest Euro 6 emissions standards, for instance, with which all current manufacturers on the UK market comply, demanded a 67% drop in NOx emissions from diesel exhausts. If your diesel vehicle is fitted with an AdBlue system it will be automatically be injected into your exhaust as you drive along. Similarly, to the fuel entering the engine, the AdBlue tank will continue to be utilised until it runs empty. Running the tank empty is not recommended and will cause poor running, it could even prevent the vehicle from starting. Our Redex experts or ‘RedExperts’ were recently asked “what is the mix ratio for Redex?”– the mix ratio for Redex is 1 shot per 50 litres of fuel, which equates to 2.5ml per litre of fuel. Take a look at our video. The inability for manufacturers to easily reduce the emissions of small diesel engines with the addition of AdBlue systems has led to an overall decline in the number of small diesel cars on the market, the majority of superminis and smaller cars now being driven by economical turbocharged petrol engines and/or hybrid powertrains. Does my car use AdBlue? Since leaded petrol was removed from fuelling stations, classic car owners either have to use unleaded or convert their cars to run on a different type of fuel.
