Come look at the lovely colors, Destina. They are the colors of the kingfisher. Blue above and orange beneath.” Anyway, Destina Rosethorn, my one complaint being her name sounds like it came from Harry Potter fanfic, is a young Solamnic Knight's daughter during the War of the Lance. Her father doesn't believe in the gods but her mother does. After a series of unfortunate events result in Destina losing her father, castle, fiance, and self-respect, she proceeds to hatch upon a plan to use the Device of Time Journeying to save her father from death at the High Clerist's Tower. First, she has to secure the Device of Time Journeying, last known to be in the possession of the spirited kender Tasslehoff Burrfoot. But to change time, she’ll need another magical artifact—the most powerful and dangerous artifact ever created. Destina’s quest takes her from the dwarven kingdom of Thorbardin to the town of Solace and beyond, setting in motion a chain of disastrous events that threaten to divert the course of the River of Time, alter the past, and forever change the future.

He headed for the King’s Wall: the fortification that surrounded this level. Wolfstone took a lantern from an iron sconce and walked along the wall until he came to the door of a storage room.Atieno was in particularly good spirits. Among her people, a girl attained womanhood at the age of fifteen. Tas was fantastic, of course. I really love that doorknob of a kender! He’s the perfect blend of innocence and unknowing wisdom. He provided laughs aplenty and a few moments that caused me to choke up a little. There’s a scene involving a helm topped with the hair from the mane of a griffin (if you know, you know) that caused my stone heart to melt. Wolfstone nodded. “But you fear she is not lying about the Graygem’s location. It is in Thorbardin.” Also, I wouldn't assume, as one ye olde preadolescent did, that all consociational aspects of the story work out in the end. The last chapter of the Chronicles trilogy, "The End. For Good or For Evil.," introduced me to a nihilism of sorts and made me more aware of the perils of manichaeism, in the context of "light and evil." Individual impulses and aims were important, for better or for worse...and not solely in the realm of "for good or for evil." Likewise, the non-linear time-travel Legends trilogy made me more aware of potential ephemerality in lust, sex, and obsession as well as, on a different note, the potential toxicities, and advantages, of filial bonds. Destina sighed and peered into the cup, and this time she saw that the dregs had formed a recognizable pattern. She laughed and said before she thought, “Isn’t that funny, Mama. The lees are in the shape of a dragon. See, here is the tail and the head and the wings . . .”Gregory joined them, bearing a wooden box containing his gift. He grew more cheerful, as he always did when he was in his wife’s presence. He kissed her and wished her joy of the day she had given him his daughter, his happiness.

Si può considerare un personaggio quasi grigio perché ad un certo punto inizia a mettere a repentaglio tutti i rapporti che ha creato con chi le sta vicino. DRAGONS OF DECEIT is a non-starter that eventually gets to the beginning of the story that all fans of the series are going to want to readDragons of Deceit is the first of the new trilogy, Dragonlance Destinies. It’s been years since the last Dragonlance written by the masters was released, but they didn’t miss a beat. I wondered before reading it if this book would appeal more to new readers or to readers returning and hoping to see the characters they love. Destina was not interested in kingfishers or the colors of autumn. The Measure prohibited the belief in omens and portents, and Destina tried to obey, but she had so many questions and not one of the thirty-seven volumes of the Measure could answer them.
