Description

This is my twenty sixth Banks novel, and I have read his stand alone novels too. Mr Robinson has moved Banks with the times and the novels are no longer Eastvale parochial affairs. They have spread to encompass London and in the most recent books, international criminal gangs. The author accomplishes this rather well. There is a main story set in Eastvale, and a sub plot involving international gangs running through and alongside the main story, and this international theme is now functioning as a DNA link between the novels. Although there is a twist at the end, I wasn’t surprised at who the culprit/s was but nonetheless a satisfying conclusion. a b "Peter Robinson". inspectorbanks.com. Peter Robinson. It’ll make identifying him either easy or bloody impossible. Either way, we’d better brace ourselves. I have a feeling this is going to be a big case.’

A suspenseful, professional-grade north country procedural whose heroine, a deft mix of compassion and attitude, would be welcome to return and tie up the gaping loose end Box leaves. Banks thought of Zelda. ‘I know someone who might be able to help you with any pictures you haven’t identified yet. She knows the sex traffic world inside out, and she’s a super-recognizer.’ Their temperamental similarity to the Kray twins had been remarked on more than once, to the extent that in some quarters they were referred to as Reggie and Ronnie, though never to their faces.” The plots are good with mostly convincing characterisations and dialogue. The east European villains speak plausible pidgin English. However, I was to be disappointed. I'm not sure if this is because it's the 26th novel in a series I have never read before, or whether the quality of his earlier books has declined as the number of 'Banks' novels has grown, but it was not what I was expecting from such a lauded series. True, it’s not like many of Robinson’s procedurals, and it wanders into territory that makes readers fear for the lives of Banks and his friends, but I found it a really good, if somewhat discomfiting, read. It definitely made me anxious to get my hands on the next one to discover who the rat is and what happens Zelda, et al.
