Description

If the CPU frequency is monitored during the stress test it can be seen that the initial temperature peak is caused by the CPU running at an average of 2734 MHz for the ‘PL1’ duration after which it thermal throttles and drops to an average frequency of 2427 MHz to prevent overheating:

WiFi 6, Bluetooth5.2, Gigabit Ethernet and HDMI,supports 4K@60fps HDR videos dual-screen outputs, 3xUSB 3.2 ports, 1xType-C. and that only the third port together with the rear port was ‘USB 3.0’ (USB 3.2 Gen 1×1 i.e. 5 Gbit/s): When booting Ubuntu 22.04.1 there was the usual UEFI (BIOS) error being reported in the ‘dmesg’ that appears common with Jasper Lake mini PCs and whose significance of which has not been determined: configuration: autonegotiation=on broadcast=yes driver=r8169 driverversion=5.15.0-47-generic duplex=full firmware=rtl8168h-2_0.0.2 02/26/15 ip= latency=0 link=yes multicast=yes port=twisted pair speed=1Gbit/s The review model included a soldered-on 256 GB eMMC drive complete with Windows 11 Pro installed and an M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe Gen 3.0 SSD drive (the review model included a 512 GB Foresee drive) which is covered by a thermal pad and then a large aluminum heatsink which in turn is connected to the metal base plate by two screws. Also included is a soldered-on WiFi 6 (or 802.11ax) Intel AX201 card together with some cables to allow adding a 2.5” SATA drive:I used a Samsung 1TB 980 NVMe SSD in my Asus PN41 and one reason I chose that drive is that it doesn't have any DRAM cache which means it runs cooler than some other SSDs. However, the PN41 has a dedicated metal heat sink for the M.2/NVMe slot which is attached with screws to the very sturdy metal frame of the PN41 (no metal coated plastic in the PN41). That's one of the features you will get with a better built mini PC although I have no proof that such features really offer any significant advantages. But the Asus PN41 is very well built with a very good range of i/o -- five USB ports with one at 10Gb/s, one serial/com port, 2.5Gb/s ethernet, and a max memory of 32GB, dual channel, as confirmed on my system although not often listed by Asus.

The MeLE Quieter HD3Q consists of a 150 x 105 x 37mm (5.91 x 4.13 x 1.46 inches) rectangular plastic case with a metal base plate. Gone are the faux heat spreader fins from the top of the case as it is now finished with a very fine dimple effect. As a passively cooled mini PC, it uses Intel’s 10 nm Jasper Lake N5105 processor which is a quad-core 4-thread 2.00 GHz Celeron processor boosting to 2.90 GHz with Intel’s UHD graphics. which, as per the specification, was indeed data only and did not support power delivery. Customer reviews

When booting Ubuntu 22.04.1, there was the usual UEFI (BIOS) error being reported in the ‘dmesg’ that appears common with Jasper Lake mini PCs and whose significance of which has not been determined: During the stress test, the maximum temperature I recorded on the top of the device was around 67.1°C in an ambient room temperature of 17.0°C, and although the device was not too hot to touch this is some 10°C hotter than the Quieter3Q and Quieter3C. Networking (Ethernet and Wi-Fi) The review model included a soldered-on 128GB eMMC drive and soldered-on 8GB LPDDR4 3200 MHz single-channel memory that was configured to run at 2933 MHz: Linux Quieter-3 5.15.0-33-generic #34-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 18 13:34:26 UTC 2022 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux resources: iomemory:600-5ff iomemory:400-3ff irq:135 memory:6000000000-6000ffffff memory:4000000000-400fffffff ioport:4000(size=64) memory:c0000-dffff

Prior to benchmarking, I perform all necessary installations and updates to run the latest version of the OS. I also capture some basic details of the device for each OS. Installation Issues System: Kernel: 5.15.0-47-generic x86_64 bits: 64 Console: pty pts/1 Distro: Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish)For real-world testing, I played some videos in Edge and Chrome on Windows and in Firefox and Chrome on Ubuntu. On Edge the initial codec for a video is ‘av01’ however as it then typically struggles to play the video it switches to ‘vp09’ whereas Chrome always used ‘vp09’: Quieter3C Mini PC shares the same ultra-thin fanless design (measures 13.1 * 8.1 * 1.83cm / 5.15 * 3.18 * 0.72inch). Inside we find the well-known Intel Celeron N5105 processor ( 4 cores, 4 threads 4MB L3 Cache, TDP 10W, and 2.9GHz burst speed). Besides, the device includes also Intel UHD Graphics up to 800 MHz. Additionally, the MeLE Quieter3C offers 8GB RAM (Singel Channel LPDDR4), 128GB eMMC storage. In addition, it allows you to extend your storage via M.2 SSD NVMe (2280) up to 5TB and a microSD card slot up to 2TB.

The key Quieter3C improvements include replacing a Type-A USB port with a Type-C USB port and enabling both video output and power delivery through it. Swapping one of the HDMI ports for a mini DisplayPort might ease connectivity for some users whilst equally hindering others who now need an HDMI adapter. Certainly, as a passively cooled mini PC, the additional internal metal plate to improve thermal dissipation is a welcome incremental improvement. Highlights LPDDR4 RAM/128GB/256GB on board eMMC storage, with a Micro SD can up to 2TB, internal M.2 SSD (SATA)/NVMe 2280 up to 5TB. Powering up the mini PC and hitting the F7 key results in a boot menu that includes access to the BIOS which is unrestricted. Final Observations During the stress test, the maximum temperature I recorded on the top of the device was around 55.6°C at an ambient room temperature of 14.1°C with the device not being too hot to touch. Networking (Ethernet and WiFi) MeLE Quieter 3Q Fanless Mini PC N5105 Windows 11 Pro Dual HDMI 4K@60Hz, BT5.2, Wi-Fi 6, USB3.0, Ethernet Port, VESA MountI'm not sure where you are getting those 7000GB/s and 3500GB/s numbers but best case you would be talking giga bits (Gb/s) not giga bytes (GB/s). A 1x PCIe version 2 interface has a transfer rate about the same as SATA (≈ 500MB/s) and each increment in the version number seems to about double the transfer rate. So, v3 would be approximately 1GB/s, v4 would be 2GB/s, etc. Similar to when I reviewed another mini PC with Intel’s Jasper Lake N5105 processor, the iGPU showed limited details in HWiNFO and was unknown to GPU-Z: The mini desktop adopted latest WiFi 6 (802.11ax) MU-MIMO, built in AX201 wifi adapter. And this fanless computer supports bluetooth 5.2, 2.4G+5.0G dual band Wi-Fi. Also able to work with Gigabit Ethernet via RJ-45 port in 10/100/1000Mbps, . Plus 1xHDMI, support 4K@60fps and HDR. The portable pc provides faster and stable connection for web browsing, Java programming, astrophotography, office working, shopping online, online education etc.”
