You can buy a special fine-toothed comb (detection comb) online or from pharmacies to remove head lice and nits.

Like most living organisms, lice are capable of building up a resistance to things that threaten their existence. As reported in the Guardian, experts have known about pesticide-resistant lice since 1995, but chemical pesticide treatments are still available, and even recommended by doctors! Here at StressNoMore, we won’t sell you something that is proven to be ineffective at killing lice. We only source non-chemical treatments that are proven to kill lice either using clever electro current technology or by smothering the lice so they cannot breathe or feed. Smothering them also makes them move very sluggishly, so you can easily spot them when combing through the hair. When choosing a lice treatment, you should ensure it doesn’t contain a chemical called Permethrin – this is the pesticide nits have become resistant to. It is unlikely to do much good and is extremely toxic to cats and fish, making it a terrible choice for our already-struggling marine life when it is showered off. Continue combing until no lice or eggs are present. Rinse hair thoroughly with warm water and shampoo as normal.Chemical insecticides. These poison the lice or paralyse their nervous systems and various trials have shown they work. However, they can lead to louse resistance so shouldn't be used as a preventative measure - plus some smell horrible, like malathion (Derbac-M) which has a garlic aroma. This method also helps manage head lice before they become established on the head. Simply keep a good head lice comb in the shower and every time your family washes their hair use the fine comb through the hair. This will ensure lice are "caught" before they lay too many eggs. If your children are old enough to wash their own hair encourage them to use the comb themselves. Or keep a comb handy to where you wash your children's hair and use it every shampoo. Chemical removal What you need for this method Conditioner - buy a cheap brand as you will be needing a lot of it, and preferably one that is white to make spotting the lice easier You can add tea tree oil to your child’s shampoo and use regularly or as needed, or to create a spray you can mix 10-15 drops of tea tree oil with 2 cups of water in a spray bottle and apply to hair, clothing, furniture, toys or any other lice affected area. For best results, don’t forget to repeat this process 7 and 14 days after the initial treatment. Get Moov now but ensure you buy the defensive spray too – to stop future infestation!

Do the same process four more times over the following two weeks to ensure all lice (including newly hatched ones) are removed. Medicated methods fall into one of two categories - chemical insecticides and physical insecticides. The best method to use if you have head lice when you're expecting is nit combing with conditioner because it avoids chemicals. In our 2022 survey, two in five parents who used an alternative to traditional branded treatments chose herbal treatments and a nit comb.Apply liberal amounts of conditioner to the scalp and massage it through all the hair shafts. Every hair has to be coated to ensure it reaches the lice. The active ingredients are isopropyl alcohol and isopropyl myristate, and it works by dissolving the lice's protective exoskeleton then dehydrating the lice and eggs – something it claims to do in two hours. Some products are worth the money and our sanity. We used nitwits after plugging away using a range of different products over what I call my 9 months of nit hell. It worked after first treatment and there was no need for combing for hours afterwards. We were finally free... -Melissa Cornish Always read the label. Use only as directed.
