Description

Each section begins with an infographic map of the region it explores , followed by richly detailed two-page spreads featuring its most jaw-dropping natural and manmade sights . This is exactly the kind of book that grabs my attention: a clear title (with a gorgeous font), and a beautiful visual sampling of what the reader will find inside the book. Large, beautifully illustrated and informative, this is one of the best children’s books we have ever read. Can you spot the mime artist at the Eiffel Tower ,or how about the green parrot at Chichen Itza, or how about the prayer flags at Mount Everest? Though the business may cause sensory overload for some, I think many children will find their travels taking them to new places, tasting new foods, and meeting new people they had never imagined before.

So, books like this aren't merely an eat-your-spinach nod by publishers to good reading; they are popular and well liked. In fact it could be an invitation to an adventure and if you choose the ‘Atlas of Adventures’ by Lucy Letherland, then you are sure to have some wonderful time travelling with your finger on the map through some of the most exciting places. The wonders introduced in this book aren't comprehensive as expected but they are representative or unique in nature. Each section begins with an infographic map of the region it explores , followed by richly detailed two-page spreads featuring its most fascinating locations . This book celebrates the great diversity of our planet : with every turn of the page, you'll come across different animals, people and sights unique to each of the locations.Travel around the world to scale the Eiffel Tower, trek the Great Wall of China, and raft through the Yosemite Valley. Each continent has an introductory page with a map that clearly shows the countries within that area as well as a brief overview of the area. Thankfully, the author has not gone for puns and dopey bits that I think tend to trivialize the material or talk down to the reader, (although that's probably just me). What with Harry Potter and all that you sometimes overlook the interest kids have in space, geography, STEM titles, and even history and biography.

Atlas of Adventures: Travel Edition - Waterstones

Her books include Atlas of Adventures, Atlas of Adventures: Wonders of the World, Atlas of Animal Adventures, and Atlas of Dinosaur Adventures. So it was surprising, in a good way, that this book included some adventures that we did not know about. The details in the pictures are sometimes fun rather than realistic, such as a red squirrel on skis, or a grizzly bear with a salmon rather than a flake sticking out of an ice-cream cone. Atlas of Adventures is a huge – and rather yellow – book, and it’ s one I would have read endlessly as a child.

Learn all about dastardly pirates in this children’s book full of photographs and illustrations, fascinating facts, and engaging challenges—from the creators of DKfindout. Explore the sprawling and sacred Angkor Wat, survive the extreme heat of Death Valley, and gaze at the majestic ruins of Machu Picchu. At the end of the book, there is a cute and enjoyable "find and seek" of many of the pictures presented throughout the book. Children and adults alike will be astounded by the world’s most unbelievable sights in this compendium of wonders.

The book is divided by continents and each continent has an introductory page with a map which shows the wonders within the continent. That makes this book all the more valuable for children and the adults around them to read and enjoy. Please note that I received a free advance will-self-destruct-in-x-days Adobe Digital copy of this book without a review requirement, or any influence regarding review content should I choose to post a review. Following the table of contents, readers will find good sized thumbnail images of each of the wonders they'll encounter in the pages of the book. It’s a way to still explore the world and ‘travel’ now that many people can’t leave their home and a sure way to keep kids entertained.
