Description

Roman blinds are often made of deceptively heavy fabrics, so you might want an assistant on hand to help you to shoulder the weight of the blind when it comes free. This next step will involve taking down the mounting brackets and carefully lifting off each individual slat of your Roman blinds. This is because these are the sort of widths at which your blind is likely to become too heavy for one person to comfortably and safely support, plus the width at which they’re going to become unwieldy even if you can bench press 250lb without breaking a sweat. Roman blinds are kept free of dust and debris by being used on a regular basis, raising the blind open and closed to help avoid dust build up. Hold the blind at the control chain end and lift it up just a few millimetres, before pushing it towards the opposite side of the blind (the side where a pin inserts into the tube to hold that side of the blind up).

Wooden and faux-wood blinds can be heavy, so depending on the size of your blind you might want to get help to remove them. These rods provide stability and help to create those characteristic folds when the blinds are raised. This could be plaster, wood or even steel so we’d recommend looking online to ensure you get the best fittings for your blind. If it appears frayed or damaged, now might be a good time to replace it with a new one before reinstalling your blinds. With finesse, you delicately detached the blind cord or chain, freeing the blinds from their entangled state.Decide where you will mount the brackets and measure the width of the outside of the recess from left to right. Roller blinds are the most common and popular type of blinds overall, and so I’ll open with this one. Install your safety device at the maximum distance possible from the control mechanism and at least 1.

Lift the blind’s pelmet or valance up by a few mm to free it, and then bring it towards you to remove it. If the blind is fixed to the window frame itself, this involves unscrewing the small screw on each bracket; the headrail will now be free of the brackets, and you can lift it outwards and down. Now that you have your tools and know how you’re going to mount the blind, here’s how to measure for inside the recess roman blind fittings. Thirdly, you know that comedy trope we’ve all seen a hundred variants of that involves someone carrying a horizontal ladder and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake every time they turn around with it?

If the blind is fixed to the lintel, you need to reach behind the headrail and push the back of each support bracket upwards to release the headrail. This releases the other end of the blind, leaving it free of the brackets, at which time you’ll be supporting its weight. Open the blind fully so the slats are all at the top of the window, and locked into position at there. Also, think about where you’re going to put the blind in the first instance when you’ve removed it from the brackets, and that the space is clear. Once you release the blinds from their mounting brackets, it’s like setting a caged bird free to soar through the open sky.

To clean your blinds before removing them, simply ignore the dust and dirt that has accumulated over time. With just a few simple tools and some know-how, you’ll be able to bid farewell to those pesky blind cords or chains that always seem to get tangled up. Roman blinds are composed of several key components that work together to create their unique functionality. When the blinds are closed, they offer a visibly smooth appearance without the ridges or bumps that are present in other types of blinds.Use a pencil to mark the drill holes where you will mount the brackets depending on if you are mounting inside or outside the recess. Measure and mark the distance (D) where you’ll be fitting the brackets to, allowing for obstructions like window handles. Next, measure the height outside the recess from the point where you want the headrail tube — also known as the batten — to sit all the way down to where you want the bottom roller shade bar to stop.
