Ever since she was born, she’s been engaged to marry an evil ruler just because her father had been foolish enough to strike a bargain. which - yes, is a familiar feeling for me, since i'm not a fan of romances, so i'm an easy target for your accusations of not being the right audience. The stakes are not high, there is barely any action, the main characters are one-dimensional, the world-building is lacking at best, and the only redeeming quality that deserves 2 stars is the swoon-worthy quotes Ignifex says to Nyx and the gradual development of their romance. In the end, no matter how hard I tried, it was just too hard to like a story that I couldn't quite follow and where I was often left befuddled by what the heroine was doing and thinking.

Initially, “Beauty and the Beast” was partially a metaphor for arranged marriage (the beast being less ‘beastly than other men of the time) without the characters actually being married until later on in the tale.

I received this book as an Advance Review Copy; all quotes are taken from an uncorrected galley and is subject to change in the final edition. The good news is that in 2014, she was able to publish her first novel, so it seems like everything has worked out just fine.I love how Rosamund Hodge played with the original tale, especially in the complexity of the main characters.
