Despite some difficult content, author Mary Kubica kept me intrigued and on my toes as I tried to piece together the plot. And if you’re looking for Local Woman Missing, you can find the audiobook on the Hoopla library app.

Visibly traumatized, she must try to help investigators piece together what happened to her and her mother that fateful day. He has that nothing-to-lose attitude, given that his career is swirling down the toilet bowl anyway. Kubica also does an excellent job with Meredith’s narrative as she makes you feel her fear of being stalked by an apparent psycho. In present day, a childhood playmate of Delilah's, Piper Hanaka, points out to Leo that Delilah used to have a cleft chin but she no longer has one now, and it's not the type of thing that disappears over time. Kubica introduces us to neighbors and friends and Meredith's husband and young son who are beside themselves with worry. The mystery is intense, fast-paced, anxiety-filled and something that I felt extremely invested in throughout.

I had no idea where the story was going, and that at first added some excitement to the story trying to figure out where it was going.Mary Kubica is a New York Times bestselling author of suspense thrillers including The Good Girl, The Other Mrs. She leaves their baby with him: we sense he’s a bad temper and abusive tendencies but don’t worry Shelby isn’t doormat and poor innocent stay at home wife. When a DNA test shows that she isn’t Delilah, one of the officers, who has grown fond of Josh, covers up the results to spare his feelings.

A few weeks later, the body of Meredith, another missing woman, is found with a self-inflicted knife wound; the only clue about the fate of her still-missing 6-year-old daughter, Delilah, is a note that reads, " You’ll never find her. Unfortunately, the ending is so critical for mystery-thriller novel, and I don’t think it really stands up to scrutiny. In the meantime, we are treated to musings on the weather, how the apocalypse is coming because it's raining so much, how they should build an ark, how she went to church to confess just in case the world is ending, how her blood is running cold with fear at the thought of someone at the door, and how her partner isn't around to open the door for her. He bottles them up inside his arms so that for a split second I don’t have to be the one carrying the weight of them.I ended up getting through Local Woman Missing in less than a day, reading parts of it and audiobook-ing parts of it as I did some packing for an upcoming trip. A small town is devastated when doula Meredith Dickey and her six-year-old daughter, Delilah, mysteriously vanish. This is convenient: The villain using Hunter for nefarious purposes is an animal rights activist who dreams of banning hunting altogether.

Over the next few weeks, Meredith is overcome by guilt as Bea works to frame Jason, Shelby’s husband, for Shelby’s death.and the last twist that delihah was alive this time and was just a few blocks away and nobody noticed , not even Kate for like freaking 10 years? domestic mystery/thrillers are a hit or miss for me, and this one was slightly leaning more towards a miss. how does kate spend 11 years not knowing there was something off with her wife as she housed her best friend's child in their attic? The atmosphere is often terrifying and I felt the fears of the characters, caught in situations that were inescapable.
