At the 75mm end of the zoom range, the diagonal angle of view is 16 degrees, equivalent to that of a 150mm lens in a 35mm system. The Olympus lens is noticeably smaller and a lot lighter than the Panasonic, which is not surprising given it lacks the optical image stabilization of the latter. You’ll really notice the benefit when you play back your HD video and the only thing you hear is the ambient background noise in the scene you were filming; what you won’t hear is the sound of the lens moving as it focuses or changes aperture.

It also comes equipped with the MSC mechanism that provides fast, silent focusing for movies and still photography. Like the Olympus 17mm that we favor for street photography, this one is available in either a silver or black finish, and the hood is sold separately. If you look at my link below you will find most of the wildlife shots and some landscapes were made with the Panasonic 100-300ii lens on my G9 body. That's not to say there aren't some equally great candidates that didn't make it on to the list (this time, at least! There is some significant lens extension as the lens is zoomed out towards the tele end, adding almost two inches to its overall length when zoomed out to 300mm.

You can compare it for very long, but overall, if we don’t touch the very high end, I think that systems are competitive. Zuiko is an all-plastic lens, quite small given the design parameters of the Micro Four Thirds system. just to see how sharp it is (it is very sharp, very impressive), then the 40-150mm and the 75-300mm. For landscapes on a tripod the 75-300 would be my choice since it has a better range and is smaller and lighter.II looks amazing, with its 150-600mm effective focal length, but the truth is it's not the sharpest knife (or lens) in the box. For my practice (Landscape), the most important thing are optical quality, especially between f8 and f11, and handling atmospheric pollution. I am getting pictures I was never able to get with my nikon gear - that I have traded in for the olympus system.

There were times when the camera would beep confirmation , and each time I look at the picture before taking it, it was not even remotely in focus. Here you have to keep in mind that you cannot crop much, you have poor background separation and there is a risk of getting a lot of noise.Yes I've heard about the possibility that the weather sealing might not work between Oly and Panny, but I stood in the pouring rain for 15-20 mins in Yellowstone shooting buffalo swimming across a stolen river and it was great. I am really enjoying wildlife and bird photography and decided I needed extra reach over the 40 -150 mm kit lens. Set to 75 mm and aperture 8, the Olympus 75-300 mm and image quality to compete with the best lenses out there, whether the lenses on a camera with a micro-43, APS-C or full-frame sensor. And, Micro 4/3, Olympus OM-D E-M1X in particular, have some outstanding innovations, that are not in full-frame.
