Everything I do and what I learn along the way gets shared on here, to inform and inspire you to get out and shoot as much - and as well - as you can too. This is probably an off the mark question, but have you ever tried to replicate the look of these settings on a RAW file? Portra Films give you beautifully matched prints across all speeds and formats, due to Single-Channel Printing Technology.

Is Kodak Portra 400 Right For Me? - The Analogue Experience Is Kodak Portra 400 Right For Me? - The Analogue Experience

This film can have such a unique color palette that is flattering for many types of subjects and light conditions, but it’s also one of the films that I’ve gotten the most questions about when it comes to metering and shooting. I should also cover the topic of drum scans as many of you are aware that I’ve been using a drum scanner for all my recent images. The rolls were developed in Flic Film’s color chemistry kit using the same temperatures and developing times. For the image below, I wanted the building itself to render as a midtone so I focused on the center of it when taking my meter reading. Kodak Portra 400 is more flexible overall, which is to be expected from the best-selling color film of all time.

Kodak Portra 400 - 120 Film - Analogue Wonderland

For this next image, the classic Scottish weather of wind and rain was spitting droplets onto the lens. Fuji X Weekly reader Luis Costa asked me if I could create a Kodak Portra 400 film simulation recipe for the Fujifilm X100F.It also has – deep breath – antenna dye sensitisation in cyan and magenta emulsion layers, Kodak proprietary targeted advanced development accelerators, optimised emulsion spectral sensitivity and image modifier chemistry, Kodak proprietary DIR couplers, unified film emulsion technology, and micro-structure optimised Kodak T-grain emulsions. With its well-balanced contrast, color, and clarity, it’s a film that embellishes things enough to bring out the beauty in a scene without being overtly garish or obvious. The ISO 400 rating gives you all the versatility you need in different light conditions too; especially with the exposure latitude meaning it’s hard to under or overexpose and the dynamic range meaning your shadows and highlights should both hold up in the same photograph too.
