I also found it fascinating to see how the young Princess Elizabeth was brought into public life in preparation for her future role. Having such an important role in the monarchy and to lead the country for 70 years through changing times over 7 decades I think is absolutely marvelous. I don't know how much I would have enjoyed it if I wasn't listening to it and reading it instead but all in all I think it is very easy to enjoy and accessible.

And as if all this content wasn’t enough, there’s even a chronicling of improvised workouts that were only ever played on stage; Shag Out or Tokyo Blues, anyone? With the lead up to the jubilee there were books about the queen everywhere and I have to say that this one stood out to me for some reason, possibly because of the beautiful cover!

Billed as a “true celebration of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee,” the book is just under 100 pages, making it an easy and light read in honour of Her Majesty.

Despite her mother favouring a member of the English aristocracy, namely Hugh Fitzroy - later the 11th Duke of Grafton - Elizabeth was determined to marry her naval officer. I am a big fan of the Royal Family and when I heard this book by Andrew Morton was coming out, I knew I’d want to read it. The queen’s sense of humour, love for her family and sense of duty are consistent themes throughout the book.

I plan to read other books by Andrew Morton as I feel I have learnt something here during an enjoyable read. A stunning photo of the Queen surrounded by a kind of lacy pattern with crowns and tiny gold flecks like little jewels. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II: Platinum Jubilee Celebration, 70 Years 1952–2022 contains plenty of images to cover her entire reign – from her childhood and time as heir to the throne to present-day engagements alongside the Prince of Wales, the Cambridges and the late Duke of Edinburgh. I can definitely see that this isn't a book to everyones tastes especially based on their leanings but if you are willing to remove her title and her work you willl read a story that spans recent history.

This book gives honest accounts of times where the public may believe she fell from grace, such as the aftermath of the Aberfan tragedy.
