Bare-Rooted PlantsTo treat bare root plants (Shown as Br, Tr or Sd in the catalogue) the most economical and effective way is to make up RootGrow as a dipping gel. In 2-4 weeks after planting the mycorrhizal fungi can increase the active root area of plants by up to 700 times – it is approved by the RHS and we recommend that all bare root plants have their roots dipped into Rootgrow when you plant them. A new plant with a fully functioning mycorrhizal root will have the best chance of becoming the rewarding plant gardeners so passionately want to thrive in their gardens. Packs of Rootgrow (360g and larger) contain a gel product (granules for 150g packs) which enables you to dilute the Rootgrow in water (to make a wallpaper type consistency) so that you can dip bare roots to obtain maximum usage. It is the smallest pack containing a sachet of dipping gel for quick and easy treatment of bare-root plants. When phosphorus is present in insoluble forms it would require a vast root system for a plant tomeet its phosphorus requirements unaided. For this reason it is best not to use phosphorous rich fertilisers in conjunction with mycorrhizal fungi.Phosphorus-rich fertilisers are widely used in cultivated ground and not only reduce the need for this activity but are thought to actually suppress the mycorrhizas. Mycorrhizal fungi pass water and nutrients to the plant, and the plant in turn supplies the fungi with some of the food that it generates by photosynthesis – the process by which plants use sunlight to transform water and carbon dioxide into oxygen and energy. How to use Rootgrow when sowing grass seed– We used Rootgrow when we wanted to re-seed a bank with grass – this is how we prepared the area and applied the Rootgrow. It's a fertiliser, proven effective in trials, that improves root development through the leaves rather than directly via the roots.
