Description

The film experienced a quiet theatrical run, but it had regular television airings in the late 1970s. Holland is more aggressive, more likely to cause trouble, and Niles is more thoughtful and a constant counter-balance to Holland’s more devious plans. A half-century after its release, The Other is frustratingly hard to locate and watch today, unless your local library carries a DVD copy. But shortly after Hazel’s arrival, Nella starts to receive anonymous threatening notes telling her to leave Wagner Books. There was an earlier incident involving an errantly thrown snowball that I had, with what eloquence I possessed then, to explain.

The Other : Book summary and reviews of The Other by David

Anne's determination to become queen reaches new heights while George becomes the subject of suspicions that he is engaging in relationships with male courtiers. Elsie and Dirk, especially within the friendship group, just felt so pointless, I feel like if they would have disappeared halfway through the book I wouldn't have noticed. He had been stabbed by his cousin Russell with a pencil and some of the graphite had nestled under the skin creating a tattoo, a dot that will never go away. Also, no contemporary records [4] mention Anne Boleyn giving birth to a deformed foetus, which Gregory depicts and the characters interpret as possible evidence of incest. The novel was reprinted in a commemorative edition in 2012 by New York Review Books with an afterword by Dan Chaon. A series of 'tragedies' has left several members of the family dead over the last year, and more seem to be on the way.

I personally found how the story unfolded predictable and even the beautiful writing couldn’t completely win me over. Gregory used two biographies of Anne, one by the American historian Retha Warnicke and another source by Marie-Louise Bruce (1972).

As such, she is usually mentioned in the numerous biographies that have been written about Anne, but never in any substantial detail. In that respect, I'd compare this one to Ira Levin's A Kiss before Dying, which also contains some powerhouse shocks. For the bulk of the story, however, we have the POV of Niles, a thirteen year old kid wiling away the summer in a big old farm in Connecticut. I will say a HUGE caveat that this review may be revised after publishing, because I read an early proof and I imagine it will be significantly edited to iron out some of the mistakes/problems in the writing, so I'm reviewing under that assumption. Lentamente, muy suave, muy sutil, esta historia se despliega como la boca dentada de una planta carnívora, tan verde y fresca por fuera y tan roja y letal por dentro.
