I have one but I am not sure how legal it is. How can it be legal to own a 12ft/lb air rifle but not a potato gun.

If you have your own land and plenty of space to use if safely... i can't see a scenario here you would be arrested for possession of a spudgun... Arabe, Katrina C. (23 April 2001). If the barrel is less than 16 inches then it is NOT a rifle, and is a hand gun, and if the muzzel energy greater than 6 foot pounds it is classed as a section 5 firearm and is illegal for almost everyone. Threaded Fittings: commonly available in BSP or NPT (not interchangeable) they generally require a fitting attached to a pipe by other means to allow screwing into another threaded fitting. The exception to this is steel pipe, the ends of which can have the appropriate thread cut into them. The dry ice bomb used for propulsion can achieve bursting pressure in a matter of seconds to hours depending on the quantity of water and dry ice. If too little dry ice, it also may not achieve bursting pressure at all. These timing issues can cause belief that the cannon has failed to fire but attempting to unload the cannon may then provide the extra stress on the bottle needed for it to rupture. Potato Cannon's are NOT toys - maybe using some drainage pipe, the cannon measure ~5 feet, and using a spaghetti jar, measure what, 30 cm ? makes the cannon slightly more dangerous. ;) A potato cannon is a pipe-based cannon that uses air pressure ( pneumatic), or combustion of a flammable gas (aerosol, propane, etc.), [1] [2] [3] [4] to launch projectiles at high speeds. [5] They are built to fire chunks of potato, as a hobby, or to fire other sorts of projectiles, for practical use. Projectiles or failing guns can be dangerous and result in life-threatening injuries, including cranial fractures, enucleation, and blindness if a person is hit. [6]

In Germany, a spud gun does not differ legally from any other firearm (for ones that use combustion to propel the projectile) or air rifle. The manufacture, acquisition and possession is therefore subject to the same requirements as for any other weapon of the same category. Since there is no known model developed before 1871, which would classify that model as an antique, spud guns are not subject to the eased regulations regarding antique weapons. Therefore any non-combusting spud gun with a maximum projectile energy of 7.5 joules can be owned by anyone without a license, while their manufacture still requires one. The legal possession of any other such weapon requires a gun license. Another reason I asked is because I've seen the people who host 'Brainiac' on Sky One fire a potato cannon in a huge field (which was completely empty, though houses WERE indeed nearby).

Notwithstanding all the other contributors, your pipe is a firearm under British law. It is an offence to discharge it near a highway. This is not a Health and Safety regulation or a civil law, it is the criminal law. This section does not cite any sources. Please help improve this section by adding citations to reliable sources. ( September 2020) ( Learn how and when to remove this template message) It is rare for a spud gun to be powerful enough to break the sound barrier, although there are some cases of this happening using specialized designs. The spud guns used are typically hybrids; but some pneumatic cannons have achieved the feat, either by using a special low-density gas, such as helium, [20] or high pressures combined with a fast valve. [21] There is also one reported case of a combustion design achieving super-sonic velocities. [8]

It depends on the exact specifications, but it may either be Section 1 (requires an FAC), Section 2 (requires an SGC) or Section 5 (essentially completely illegal). Duct tape: sometimes used in simple cannons, it is unsuitable for sealing any significant pneumatic pressure and if used on a combustion cannon the heat produced can soften the adhesive and melt the tape, greatly weakening any seal or joint it creates.Killjoy (25 April 2007). "FEAR". SpudFiles. Archived from the original on 27 February 2015 . Retrieved 2009-06-01. Ball Valve: Made out of either plastic or metal, ball valves are considered inferior by many enthusiasts due to their slow opening times. For those on a tight budget or in low-power setups, ball valves are ideal. Some choose to modify their valves by attaching a pneumatic actuator or spring to achieve a faster opening speed. I have heard of people being given clips on the ear for it, and even some cases of the armed response unit being called, which may well have included arrests, but bear in mind, that relates just to people I've spoken to on the internet - a very small minority, and generally a more sensible one, and if even they can get the ARU on them... According to the NFA and GCA previously mentioned, it must be muzzle loaded, not rifled, or use any projectile which is intended to be used as a weapon. Any device using compressed air would be completely exempt from both. The law on AIR GUNS has just changed, and there are now age limits. Tresspass with an air gun is criminal tresspass.
