The instructions for making up anti-reflux formulas may be different to standard formula. The usual guidelines for how to make up baby formula recommend using boiled water that has stood for no more than 30 minutes, so that the temperature is still above 70C. If they advise you to move milks slowly, start with one feed of Anti-Reflux milk a day – ideally earlier in the day – while giving their usual milk at all other times. Once this new feed has become established (which can take two to three days) introduce a second feed of the new milk. Keep going until all of the feeds are with Aptamil Anti-Reflux. The theory is that the higher casein content helps to slow digestion and results in the baby feeling more satisfied and less hungry soon after feeding. Some of the formula manufacturers claim hungry milk can delay the start of weaning until the recommended time, for hungrier bottle-fed babies.
