Arianne will be joined in conversation by Professor Bobbie Farsides, Professor of Clinical and Biomedical Ethics at BSMS, for readings from the book and a discussion on some of the topics. Weve all wrestled with questions like these, whether were shouting at a relative across the dinner table, quarreling with old classmates on social media, or chatting late into the night with friends. Shahvisi points to a capitalist system that forces most people “to sell our labour and exchange the money we earn”—a burden that isn’t equitably borne, as forces such as racism and ableism create a hierarchy of exploitation. Arguably, to constructively engage in an argument, one must assume that the people we are arguing with possess some level of reasonableness.

A better view is that we should as much as possible see our common humanity - in all humans; attempt to treat all people fairly and with respect; know that while it is difficult to understand each other, it is never impossible, no matter what our race, colour or creed. These are matters requiring systemic reform, which will in turn require Americans to elect officials who will enact that reform. Writing about her sex offender brother, Josh, and the legal action she and Derick had to take to get their questions answered, Jill describes how she was finally able—through therapy, prayer, and the establishment of boundaries—to reconcile love for her parents with Jim Bob’s deception and reframe her faith outside the IBLP. Unfortunately, though, these important debates are being spoiled by a vocal minority of trolls who aren’t really interested in the issues, try to derail the conversations, register under fake names, and post vile abuse.

These questions tap into some of today's most divisive issues, and finding an answer can often lead to confusion and resentment. It is important that we continue to promote these adverts as our local businesses need as much support as possible during these challenging times. I misunderstood the aim of this book and thought that it would provide ideas to facilitate discussions between people with different perspectives in the hope of bringing people together in a deeper understanding. Well written and thoughtful, I highly recommend this book especially if you're a person who has been looking for a way to ease into a rather heavy subject. I think those who don't have too much of a theoretical knowledge to begin with may find this difficult. If steam is pouring from your ears right now, you probably aren't going to like her answer to the question, "Do All Lives Matter?
