But even the most jaded amongst them will have to pause for half a second as they take in the brand new picture book Battle Bunny by Jon Scieszka, Mac Barnett, and Matthew Myers. Overall, we were fascinated and completely entertaining by this truly unique concept book and we really enjoyed reading it together. When you look at the units information or data and see their damage compared to the enemies, you’d expect certain enemies to fall off all levels, and they are broken and they don’t die….

Pity the occasional child who will be interrogated by a clerk about how this book came to be so horribly defaced. Mac Barnett is a New York Times-bestselling author whose books for children have sold more than one million copies in the United States and have been translated into over 30 languages. This deliciously subversive piece of metafiction skewers - with sharp wit and a sharper pencil - the earnest, purposeful literature so popular in the middle of the last century. These are in the form of a blunt HB pencil and adorn the original illustrations as if scrawled upon by an angry young tyke. But Lauren, even though she has 5 Titans, she really wanted to have some little Knights running at their feet to act as a guard at Walks. It is original and funny and is likely to appeal to children who think that woodland creatures are drippy and like superhero action. and Chloe and the Lion (both illustrated by Adam Rex), and the New York Times bestseller Extra Yarn . Instead of taking something hokey and making it violent, I sort of wish that it had just taken something basic and made it more complex, if that makes sense. Encourage creativity with this wildly entertaining picture book mash-up from the minds of Jon Scieszka and Mac Barnett.

Parents will enjoy the sly, cantankerous humor (was that actually a Waiting for Godot reference I just read? Leo: A Ghost Story, illustrated by Christian Robinson, and The Skunk, illustrated by Patrick McDonnell, were named two of the Ten Best Illustrated Books of 2015 by The New York Times. So many of you may be aware that we are big fans of all sorts of big Engines, and have love Titans too! He is the author of some of the best known and funniest books written for children and is the creator of the Trucktown series. Scieszka himself is the merry jester of the form, taking picture subversion to a whole other level with books like The Stinky Cheese Man and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs.As for the interior, he crossed-out text, added new words and art, and turns the story into something completely different. Just tap the cute pet Bunny to deploy on the battlefield and fight with strong animal troop enemies. When you put two comical authors together like Jon Scieszka and Mac Barnett, you know you're going to be laughing out loud!

They range in ages from 21-26 but they remember being kids and appreciate reading books with multi-tiered humor now. Reminiscent of a Little Golden Book, Birthday Bunny is the predictable story of a bunny who wakes up on his birthday and none of his friends remember it's his special day. Alex’s gleeful disregard for the inanity of Birthday Bunny belies a deep engagement with the words in the book, an active participation with the structures of literacy that acts as a rebellious model for kids just starting to read on their own. Apparently, the original book, given to a fictitious boy named Alex, was not interesting enough for him. and now rather than being a story about some sad sack bunny feeling sorry for himself for like 20 pages, it is about a bunny who will take what is his.that’s something to be looked at, and the experience becomes, and Everly increasing frustration and ugly experience. The story of Battle Bunny is a far more explosive affair, a perversion of the original text as Bunny no longer wants to be a friend, but the master of all animal kind.

In the end, both tales are left feeling underdone and you get the impression the book was always designed to be a gimmick.I have no particular issue with the dark sense of humour on show; some kids love the likes of Horrible Histories. and Chloe and the Lion (both illustrated by Adam Rex), and the New York Times bestseller Extra Yarn. This is an example of exactly how kids are told not to interact with their books—and that’s what makes it so effective.
