Check out more info on these filling mechanisms including a video on how to fill each one on our blog. The ring on the cap side has Jinhao at the end of the clip, X750 on the opposite side, and decorative ivy vines going around between. It's a little different from other Diamine inks because it takes so long to dry, so doesn't really represent their usual ink. Yong modifies a number of Chinese pen models so if an Eight Horses doesn’t appeal to you, perhaps another style will. Furthermore, because of your technicolour post of the other day, I found myself strangely - and utterly helplessly - drawn into purchasing an 8nr multicoloured pack of the same!

It is easily the biggest nib in my collection and the only ones that match it are probably the nibs from a Pelikan M1000 or other such high-end fountain pen. Any shortcomings like inconsistent flow would have benefited from adjustments but could improve with continued use. Inspired by last week's color-coordination of my pens, I decided to pro-actively set-up supplies for my journal for February. Both barrel and cap are made from a glossy black lacquer overlay onto probably a brass base with chrome plated fittings. In the nibs forum I was touted onto an Arkansas Stone and some micro-screen reshaping -- and will try that IF I cannot afford to fine 3 nibs that work as well as a Japanese fine in the X750, or a flex nib that flows properly on the feed. I'm also tempted to try a medium or fine nib but I'm not sure I want to sink more money in these pens, no matter how cheap they are. Unlike your experience I now own 10 Chinese pens from Jinhao, Duke, Baoer and Hero and not had a bad pen amongst them. This consists of either dipping your pen nib and feed in ink, or forcing ink from the converter down into the feed.

About: Jinhao seems to be one of these Chinese makers who can create pens that look intended for a cushy desk job without having to sell off your first born for a power pen.Maybe it’s something about the sharp corners that limits the flow and maybe the paper isn’t as awful as it seems. Every one of them has been blessed with a smooth nib, although I have always chosen a medium option. Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. I used the piston on the converter to force some ink into the nib, and since that time it is writing very wet again. I read a review dating from 2011 if I remember the date correctly and the checkered pattern looked dull, faded, and had the corners rounded right out of the box.
