Epic, unforgettable and endlessly exciting, Steadman’s masterful sequel soars even higher than her debut.' – Aisling Fowler, author of the Fireborn series Do you think it’s fair that most of the kids don’t trust Skandar because he’s a spirit wielder? Why is it that Skandar’s friends do trust him? What do you think of the Peregrine Society members, and how do you think they feel about Skandar? Using textual evidence from the novel, describe why you think Skandar is or isn’t a trustworthy character. Who does Skandar trust?

In November 2022, it was announced that Simon & Schuster had acquired three more books from Steadman. This will bring the Skandar series to five books, plus one untitled novel. The second book in the series, Skandar and the Phantom Rider was published on 2 May 2023. [5] Publications [ edit ] Jamie sees that Skandar is extraordinary when he says, about the Island: “‘I’m talking about it being rotten at its core . . . stopping that—it’s on you, Skandar. I’m sorry, but it is.’” (p. 351) Bobby tells Skandar, “‘You always end up saving the day . . . because you actually give a damn about doing the right thing.’” (p. 298) What do you think are Skandar’s main motivations for wanting to do the right thing? When Skandar discovers that he may be a Mender, he is excited about the possibility of uniting Kenna and her unicorn. Imagine that you are a Mender and that with your powers you could fix anything broken. Write an essay talking about what you’d choose to fix, and how you would fix it.Skandar loves the World of unicorns and was devastated on the day when he wasn’t allowed to take the hatchery test. He considers the Island his home and went further than almost anyone to protect it when the Island was imploding on itself due to the actions of Dorian Manning. He always liked discovering her things about the Island such as Four Point, or the Eyrie upon first entering. That night, Quartets were formed, Skandar went with Bobby, Flo and Mitchell although he almost had no choice since they were the only ones who knew that he was a Spirit Wielder. Skandar and the Phantom Rider | Book by A.F. Steadman Skandar and the Phantom Rider | Book by A.F. Steadman

A magnificent book. I raced through it – at turns enthralled, delighted, amazed. It’s everything I could have wanted and more. No doubt this book is going to fly.’ – Hannah Gold, author of The Last Bear The next morning, Skandar went to the Trough, where rider's ate all their meals, he saw Gabriel's mutation, which Skandar thought made him look like a Greek statue, he overheard people gossiping about Joby Worsham, the instructor of Mainlander classes for people like Skandar. People were saying that was barely human, like a ghost, Flo told him that people only gossiped about Worsham because his unicorn was dead. The Mainlander Hatchlings went up to Instructor Worsham's treehouse, some of them quite scared. He seemed not as scary as the Hatchlings thought he even let them call him by his first name. He told them the story of how his unicorn, Winter's Phantom, was killed and Skandar couldn't help but feel bad for him. Skandar returned to the treehouse to find Mitchell playing with his Chaos Cards, he opened up about how the reason he didn't like Skandar was because of his father and their family name.

The tour ended down by the Hatchling stables, Skandar, Bobby, Mitchell and Flo discussed what to do the next day when Skandar crossed the Fault Lines because since he was a Spirit Wielder all the lines would ignite, they had to cause a distraction. In chapter twelve, when Skandar is trying to convince the quartet that they can find the tomb of the First Rider, he points out the strengths of his friends. Choose one of the people below and use the sentence as a starting place to write a character sketch of them, using examples from the novel to build your sketch. Have you read other books that take place in a boarding school? What are some common story elements you can recognize about this setting? How would you feel if you had to attend a boarding school? How would you feel about being separated from your local friends and your family? What would your ideal boarding school specialize in?
