Her insight into the genesis of the series and the fate of the planned feature film and her anecdotes about filming all help to build a picture of life on the series in the early ‘70s. Also, in the third series, David Hemmings took the time to appear in one episode, "Uncle Joe" and also to direct two other episodes, which took place before and after that episode: "The Bridge Builder" and the final episode, "Walk In the Wood". The first series won the Harlequin award for best production at the 1972 BAFTA Awards, while the second series episode, "The Debt", reached the top 20 in the weekly television ratings—a rarity for an afternoon-timeslot show.

For fans of the series, though, this book is a "must have", if only for the photos, that bring long, hot Summer days, when the tar in the road used to melt between the cobbles and the innocence and longing of youth flooding back!Cast: Ivan Beavis (Liverpool Policeman), Sheila Fay (Julie's Mother), Jane Hutcheson (Julie), Clare Kelly (Katherine Ross), Charles Lamb (Old Man in Cafe), Harry Littlewood (Bargee), Fulton Mackay (Mr. He was given a second chance in life when Dora's uncle took him on to care for the elderly and abandoned horses at Follyfoot.

Sam Lockwood ( Frederick Treves): unscrupulous horse trader who is in it only for the money and does not care whether his animals are going to good homes. A huge plus is the vast array of previously unpublished photos, both from the episodes and from behind the scenes. The ethos of Follyfoot generally was to give another chance to both horses and people who had been rejected by the rest of society: the stance of the series was recognisably pro-animal, and characters who resembled the archetypes of the Pullein-Thompson sisters et al [ clarification needed] were overwhelmingly shown in a negative light. As well as the Follyfoot books, the author also wrote The World's End series, which although more of a general animal-orientated series rather than pony, does include a strong pony element.

Monica Dickens wrote several more books in the early 1970s to coincide with the TV series, and referred to the previously un-named farm as "Follyfoot Farm" in those books. Now out of a job he winds up at the Follyfoot Home of Rest for horses where he meets Dora, the dedicated girl who works there, along with a cast of other eccentric characters who seem almost as troubled as their charges. The language is much simpler and instead of having one narrative, which follows throughout the book, they are more episodic, just like the series. Full of drama and action which shows children acting resourcefully to protect their beloved horses; this is a heart-warming story which stands the test of time brilliantly.Naturally, all her stories are horse-related, so it isn't really the insight into behind-the-scenes that the book promises. Several other famous people had minor roles: Pam St Clement, Gretchen Franklin as the Colonel's housekeeper and Kathy Staff in two separate bit parts. SUMMARY: Groom Steve rescues the ill-treated Cobbler's Dream, a showjumper who has been almost blinded by the vicious girl who owned him.
