This same logic applies to frying pans and you may be able to get by with a pan slightly larger than the 5 3/4 inch TOAKS frying pan mentioned above, but don’t push this too much. As mentioned above, mine has been in some salty conditions and shows no signs whatsoever of any rust or corrosion. Whatever it is made from, I’ve been extremely happy with its construction and it looks like it belongs with some of my higher-priced gear. Does the BRS-3000T have an igniter?

Weight is another consideration. If you are going on a 2-day overnight, weight won’t matter as much as, say, a 30-day wilderness trek. Always read the instructions. (Yes, even if you are familiar with camp stoves.) The instructions will tell you how to prime your stove, and might even have tips on cleaning and repair. However, on my scale, the Amicus with ignition weighs 2.8 oz/78 g. For comparative purposes, I'll list the weights of several stoves in the same class. For reference, I'll also list the weights of the other two upright Soto canister stoves even those are higher end stoves and are not in the same class. These weights were all measured in grams by me on my scale. Weights per the manufacturer may differ. This change of mind return policy is in addition to, and does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law including any rights you may have in respect of faulty items. A good practice to get into when getting a new campstove is to set it up in your kitchen and cook on it for a few days using different pots and pans until you get a feel for what works best. This way you can be certain that your expectation will match reality when you are out there in the wild for the first time with the new stove. Do you need a windscreen for the BRS 3000T stove? And they work. Not only are they easy to extend and retract, not only do they stay in place once set, they're just danged good pot supports. Of its class, the Amicus has the best pot stability that I've seen. The WindMaster, if one gets the optional 4Flex pot support, has far better pot stability, but the WindMaster is a larger, more powerful, ultralight stove and is really not in the same class as the smaller, budget minded Amicus. The only stove that really comes close to the Amicus in this class is the Snow Peak GigaPower. One of the outstanding features of the Soto line of upright canister stoves is their "Stealth" piezoelectric ignition system. The wire is run up throughthe burner column (rather than being on the outside), and the spark point is in the center of the burner rather on the rim. The Soto ignition is far less likely to snag on things and is less obtrusive. We’ve heard reports of problems with the fuel connector threads stripping, but we haven’t experienced a problem in more than a year of testing. Note that the Stealth ignition is optional. A version of the Soto Amicus is available without the ignition.

Maximum Efficiency: Patent-pending radiant burner, heat exchanger and internal pressure regulator produce best-in-class, fuel-sipping efficiency in all conditions Not only could I visually observe that the Amicus' flame was far less affected, I could run the Amicus at a far lower setting. As low as I could turn down the flame, the Amicus never blew out. Not so with the open burner Crux. I was doing a simmer test with the Crux, the flame was steady and had been running for some time, but when a gust of wind came through, the Crux blew out, and I had to re-light the stove.

In conclusion, as I reflect on the Soto Amicus, I find that there isn't much that I dislike about it except that perhaps it could be a bit lighter. It's a nice stove that's head and shoulders above the other stoves in its class. The BRS-3000T does not have a pressure regulator. In case you’re unfamiliar with what a pressure regulator does, it keeps the flame consistent despite the pressure in the canister. Stoves that don’t have regulators need to be constantly monitored and adjusted to keep the cook flame consistent. It's possible to run the Flash at something approaching a low simmer, but only just - and definitely not in the wind. As with the Reactor, this is a stove for boiling the living daylights out of water, rather than more general camp cookery. In addition, you can only use this stove with compatible cookware from Jetboil - it's not possible to use any old flat bottomed pot.In addition, it is worth noting that Japan has some of the highest gas stove safety standards in the world. I am not aware of any Chinese stoves that have been able to meet the strict Japanese standards. I have seen some US (Coleman) and European (Primus) brands on my trips to Japan. At first glance, we had concerns about the scalloped, curvy pot stand lips (which are designed to be compatible with BioLite’s pot and grill cookware). But upon testing, we had no issues balancing off-brand pots as well, even a small 1L pot. Note: In addition to this review, I have two preliminary posts on the Soto Amicus that contain additional information and photographs:

We did find it difficult to bring water to a simmer with this stove, and we found ourselves extinguishing the burner repeatedly in our attempts to reduce the heat output. Additionally, since the burner is so quiet (a plus while trying to be discrete around camp), it is often hard to know when it is still lit, or if you are just wasting fuel. With so much heat output, the pot also tends to get quite hot, so be careful when handling it.During testing, we found the pressure regulator did equate to more consistent boil and simmer capabilities and helped reduce the impact of cold and wind on stove performance. It also boiled faster than all but one other stove on this list. An inbuilt piezo ignition is handy, though in my experience this one can take several tries to spark - and I'd never leave home without the insurance of a spare ligher in any case. The burner section is not free standing, so has to be connected to a canister to stand upright.
