In our fourth place spot is another fantastic surveyors tape, but this time we are noting it for being the most expensive (yet worth the money) product in this list. It’s priced at similar money when compare to the Draper, and measures 100m, so it definitely could be worse, but it’s still expensive. In other words, this is the tape we suggest you buy if you’re not worried about price or even length, as having more available length to measure with is better than having too little. This week Leica Geosystems release the newest member of the DISTO family: the DISTO D110. The diminutive D110 breaks the mould for Leica, sc...

Surveyors tapes come with a range of blade materials ideal for different purposes. Fibreglass is the most common material used for long tape blades due to its durability, accuracy and, crucially, its resistance to water, tearing and stretching. But steel surveyors tapes are still very popular and far better suited to certain applications. Surveyors tapes are even available in stainless steel although not many manufacturers offer such products. Only you will know which one's right for you! The coefficient of thermal expansion of invar alloy is very low. It is not affected by changes in temperature. Hence, these tapes are used for high precision works in surveying such as baseline measurement, triangulation surveys, etc. Invar tapes are expensive than all the other types of tapes. These tapes should be handled with care otherwise bends or kinks may be formed. The most common type of tape measure a surveyor uses in the field is an 8-meter metal tape measure. They are popular as they are lightweight and compact, easy to carry around, durable, and they are able to measure accurately to the millimeter with good measuring practices the distance between two points. Metal tape measure blades can be made out of different materials including steel and stainless steel. These are the key things to look for in tape but there is quite a variety in the marketplace, so just consider these things when you go to buy and were confident you’ll be the right tape for you. Best surveyors tapes UKYou're also getting superior flexibility too... it goes without saying that, when you hit thirty metres, you're all out of measuring! A fifty metre model obviously gives a whole load more length and, with such a minimal price differential, why not cover all bases and go longer?

Metal tapes can come in various lengths ranging from 1 meter to 100 meters. The measuring tape width can also vary between 6 to 16 millimeters. Surveyors tape measures also come with two types of cases. The closed reel variety uses a more familiar design whereby the entire blade is encased within a plastic or steel shell thereby protecting the blade against accidental cuts etc. The open reel type, whilst more open to this type of damage, sees the blade held within a frame-style case which is not only lighter and frequently easier to carry, it also allows for much easier cleaning and prevents jamming when rewinding dirty tapes.

You can use surveyors tape for a variety of purposes, ranging from field measurements to planting distances in the garden. You can use it for short measurements outdoors, so it really is useful if you’re going to be building some garden units or even just for general gardening measurements. If you’re doing some long distance measurements, such as field measuring or for large scale construction, they provide accurate and easy measurement taking. They’re suitable for most outdoor jobs and are a must have if you spend lots of time doing jobs outside, which is why they’re so commonly sold. Ever come across a land surveyor without a tape measure? No, we haven’t either. It’s an essential piece of kit for any surveyor, civil or structural engineer... in fact, any construction professional. Finally, if you’re not sure what tape suits your requirements try our Online Tape Assistant or ask a question on online chat for advice from our knowledgeable team, many of whom have extensive surveying and engineering experience. A woven metallic tape is an improved version of linen tape. Brass or copper made wires are used as reinforcement for the linen material. Hence, it is more durable than normal linen tape. A brass ring is provided at the end of the tape which is included in the length of the tape. Woven metallic tapes are are available in different lengths of 2m, 10m, 15m, 20m, 30m, and 50m. These are used for survey works such as topographical survey works where minor errors are not taken into consideration.

Since you’re going to be outdoors using this item, most likely in the rain and cold if in England, you want it to be comfortable. Most surveying tapes are made from basic plastics such as ABS which are perfectly comfortable, so consider the material. Rubber casing is always ideal too which the HKB ® 1 piece measuring tape has. Steel tapes used in Land Surveying are not flexible and are suitable for measuring leveled surfaces only. They may corrode easily when exposed to moisture and to prevent this tape, it should be cleaned and oiled after every use. These tapes are generally used for standardizing chains, measurements of constriction works, etc. A steel tape is made of steel or stainless steel. It consists of a steel strip of 6mm to 16mm wide. It is available in lengths of 1m, 5m, 8m, 10m, 20m, 30m and 50m. Meters, decimeters, and centimeters are graduated in the steel strip. Steel tapes generally came up with the metal case with automatic winding device. The tape is withdrawn from the case by using a hand during measuring and it is rewound into the case by just pressing button provided on the case. While some land surveyors believe that a Tape Survey isn't a survey at all and a few others believe Tape Survey to be a meaningless term, actually a Surveyors Tape (sometimes referred to as a Tape Measure) is a valuable tool and Tape Surveys are important, in my opinion. In fact there are more than 5 types of Tapes used in Land Surveying for linear measurements.Fibreglass tapes are commonly used when accurate distances are not required to be measured. Applications for their use can be: Fibreglass tapes can come in a variety of sizes, from as short as 5 meters, all the way up to 100 meters. A 30-meter fiberglass measuring tape. Cloth & Linen Tapes Surveyors, why buy from The Tape Store? Put simply we know land surveyors need to take quality measurements so, naturally, we provide quality measuring tools. With open reel tapes the blade is encased in an open frame and you can actually see the blade.
