Bad stuff happens to all of us, so appreciate the focus on her life and accomplishments. I was excited to receive a copy about Queen Elizabeth. I think like many people, I wanted to know more about the Queen of the UK, after her passing on September 8, 2022 at the age of 96 years old. Elizabeth was always known for how seriously she saw her sense of duty to the people of her country. She served for 70 years which made her the longest reigning Queen in the world. She was also the most admired, which I just learned reading this book. As the book shows Elizabeth was an inspiration to many and she achieved a lot during her 70 years on the throne, but she was never meant to be the Queen and this book shows how her life changed and she became the heir to the throne. The author’s focus on two major events in young Elizabeth’s life, highlight moments which changed her life forever. This is a good opportunity to spend time with children discussing what happens when events, out of our control, occur and cause our journey to take a different direction. I read this with my niece and nephew, and we talked about how our attitude can make all the difference in the world. The first lesson Elizabeth learned was that “a good queen serves her people, not the other way around.’ This shaped her destiny and contributed to her incredible legacy as the longest serving British monarch. As a woman she was a outnumbered with few female influencers, when the world was dominated by men, in a man’s world. The life, we celebrated at her Platinum Jubilee was one of overcoming obstacles, inclusion of others and lifelong service.Queen Elizabeth follows the story of young Lilibet, who would grow up to become Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. The illustrations deserve separate praise. There are plenty of corgis on them. Some pictures show altered familiar photographs - the Queen surrounded by her grandchildren and Mia Tindall holding her handbag. I can look at them over and over again.

Queen Elizabeth ll loved corgis dogs and horses and dreamed of living on a farm. Little did she expect that should be a reigning queen living in a grand palace all the rest of her life. In 1952, she was crowned Queen of the United Kingdom. Sadly she passed away on September 8, 2022 and the entire world mourned her death. Two of her corgis dogs and one of her horses attended her state funeral. Overnight, the young princess became queen of kingdoms all over the world, from England to faraway South Africa.”

My daughter is 5 and she did a song and dance at school for the Queen's Jubilee in June this year and has asked me a lot about the Queen lately following her funeral on 19th September which has also sadly coincided with the passing of her grandad so we have been able to use this book to talk about the positives too.
