There was nothing that could prepare us for Dean and Allie. It’s not that they are any more compelling of a pair than the others in the Off-Campus series, but they both had to overcome their natures to figure out how to be together and that feels more significant somehow.

He finds out his wife has spent all the money and wants to basically rip his wifes head off. It is an emotional roller coaster. You need to be aware that this is a gangland thriller so some of the language may offend. But if you get past that you'll find a story of family, love, loss and loyalty. Van der Kolk presents childhood trauma as a “hidden epidemic”, swept under the carpet by society at large and by psychiatry in particular. He advocates for policy responses that combat the economic and societal drivers of childhood adversity, and for better recognition by organised psychiatry of the mental health impacts of trauma. If you enjoy a good gangland thriller and enjoy authors such as Martina Cole, Casey Kelleher, and Jessie Keane amongst others you are in for a treat. Kerry is definitely a contestant for the worthy title of ‘queen of crime writing'.The argument that broad concepts of trauma produce fragility rests on the belief that defining moderate life challenges as mind-shattering traumas might undermine our resilience. Scary, satisfying and addictive, Kerry Kaya’s The Score is a brilliant thriller readers will not want to miss. We tend to think of trauma in its most extreme forms, such as PTSD in veterans, rape victims, and survivors of tragedies like 9/11. But nearly everyone is likely to either suffer from trauma or know someone who does—whether from a tragedy or accident, domestic violence, childhood abuse, or witnessing violence as a child.

What I really enjoyed about this offering was the character development. I didn’t always like Fletch in the previous tale.. his emotions didn’t scream gritty gangster to me.. but added to this offering I understand him so much better now, it’s family.. you’ll do anything for those you love.Kerry Kaya has never disappointed me yet her gritty gangland thrillers are just awesome - read this in two sittings. The author has created such a fabulous storyline with some amazing characters, none of which are particularly nice or trustworthy for that matter. I liked the way the author laid this story out, introducing certain characters, allowing me to get to know them and then she threw in a twist. These were fabulous twists and kept me on my toes, it also meant the story keeps evolving in an almost real-time feel. Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is a treatment in which patients revisit their trauma while focusing on a therapist’s finger moving side-to-side. In contrast to exposure therapy, which aims to desensitize patients through repeatedly revisiting the traumatic memory, EMDR uses the trauma as merely a starting point leading to other, seemingly unrelated thoughts and memories. The effects of trauma live on not only in the emotional mind and the chemical makeup and circuitry of the brain, but also in the body’s physiology. Traumatic experiences rewire the brain to cause people to be hypervigilant to threats: The slightest hint of a threat sends trauma sufferers into a fight-or-flight response, triggering stress hormones to flood their bodies and keep them in a state of hyperarousal long after the perceived threat is gone.
