No OTT ending This was actually one of the better endings I've read lately. The author didn't throw everything and the kitchen sink at us, and I actually liked the lil cliffhanger. I felt all my questions were answered. As I mentioned before these neighborhood dramas usually provide a good amount of entertainment. The things people are up to behind closed doors! The police certainly had their work cut out for them as there were quite a few murder suspects and as you are reading it's difficult to really eliminate anyone from the list. Now if you are looking for a story with likable people, keep searching as this is not the book for you. To be quite honest I don't think there was a single person I liked but that sure didn't stop me from being interested in their dirty laundry! I can't remember. What difference does it make? I didn't take anything! They won't even know I was there." A] well-sculpted domestic thriller . . . highly suspenseful . . . Twists are subtly revealed with aplomb, taking the story to increasingly unpredictable levels.”

THERE ARE TOO MANY LIES, SECRETS, CHEATERS ON THIS BOOK! NOBODY IS INNOCENT: Every character lies on this book. Every character has big secrets. Every one of them has different agenda. I was about to blurt out laughing because at some parts the book turned into mysterious tele-novelas, most soap-y operas, you know that ones, the man who sleeps with his own maid, daughter in law at the same time, when his wife’s having a relationship with gardener and her trainer  Who is he, and what might he have uncovered? After two anonymous letters are received, whispers start to circulate, and suspicion mounts. And when a woman down the street is found murdered, the tension reaches the breaking point. Who killed her? Who knows more than they're telling? And how far will all these very nice people go to protect their own secrets? He knows he can't get out of this by denying it. He's caught like a rat in a trap, and now all he can do is damage control. "I did sneak into somebody's house, but I wasn't stealing. It was more like-just looking around," he mutters. An intriguing cast, an isolated location, a raging storm and the threat of death in every dark corner: An Unwanted Guestreads like Agatha Christie with a shot of adrenalin. Clear your desk before you start it because you won’t want to put it down.”Someone We Know takes place in a tranquil suburb of New York. Robert Pierce reports that his beautiful young wife Amanda is missing. Did she leave on her own or has something sinister happened to her? The police arrive in the neighborhood, and proceed to unearth the residents' every secret. And there are so many, because everyone has something to hide. Shari Lapena.... I love this book ❤️ Once I got started I struggled to put it down and would have read it in one sitting if I could. I have read books from the author before so I knew it would be good but I think this one is my favourite so far. There is so much going on all the time and getting to the end of each chapter you just want to keep going. They don't even know I was there," Raleigh says defensively. "I was really careful. I told Mom-I never took anything. I didn't do any harm."

In this neighborhood, it’s not just the husbands and wives who play games. Here, everyone in the family has something to hide . . . No!" Raleigh shouts, flushing hotly with embarrassment. He's not some kind of a pervert. He mutters, "I was mostly looking in their computers." Thank you to Edelweiss and Pamela Dorman Books for the ARC provided in exchange for an honest opinion. Lapena keeps the well-developed twists churning, with each a surprise notch in this ever-evolving plot, and she continues this skillful storytelling until the stunning twist at the end . . . memorable.” What a crazy, wild and fun read this was! It was a buddy read with Kaceey and it was one of our favorite suspense reads of this year.I’ve read some pretty intriguing 'bad neighbor' books... but this neighborhood just raised the bar! My For Sale sign would be immediately planted, and the only thing in my rear-view mirror would be skid marks and tire smoke as I make my get away!🚙 It was inspired by something I saw on the internet about a kid breaking into someone’s house in the middle of the night to use their wi-fi. I guess he’d had his own wi-fi restricted at home. It got me thinking about what a teenage boy might do, and what the repercussions might be. I knew the boy had to stumble onto something big—I needed a murder. It’s always easy to come up with a dead body—it’s how that dead body got to be there that’s more difficult, and a lot more interesting. That’s where the story comes in. In many ways, Someone We Know is similar to my other thrillers—it’s fast paced, it’s twisty, and you want to get to the bottom of it all. But this one also focuses on whole families, on parents and sons in particular, rather than focusing only on couples. It feels richer and deeper to me in that way. Suddenly Stanhope doesn't feel so safe. And William isn't the only one on his street who's hiding a lie. As witnesses come forward with information that may or may not be true, Ella's neighbours become increasingly unhinged. I read this novel at one sitting, absolutely riveted by the story line. The suspense was beautifully rendered and unrelenting!”

The book has a claustrophobic feel since Aylesford is small and there are a limited number of people who might be the murderer. Thus the armchair detective has a pretty good chance of closing in on 'who done it.'

Exactly what I love in a book: a small cast, an intricate plot worthy of Agatha Christie, with characters who stay in my mind long after the novel has finished. As for her writing – it was just perfect, as though Anne Tyler had written a thriller. No greater compliment can be given! Mary Torjussen One neighbourhood, four couples, an amateur burglar and one dead body – this is a masterful whodunnit, perfectly paced and expertly plotted, that had me guessing all the way through. Like Desperate Housewives with bite. I loved it and couldn't put it down. C. L. Taylor They all sit. The sound of the chairs scraping against the floor rips at Raleigh's raw nerves like nails on a chalkboard. The new domestic suspense novel from the New York Times bestselling author of THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR, A STRANGER IN THE HOUSE and AN UNWANTED GUEST, Shari Lapena
