Although it’s considered rare for Carpet Moths to live in a synthetic carpet, it does happen. Unlike oriental rugs that are made from wool, synthetic carpets don’t contain the natural fibers the Carpet Moth Larvae need to grow. However, if there is a large presence of animal fur, human hair, dust and crumbs, that could attract adult moths to lay their eggs nearby. 7. How do Carpet Moths get in the house? In the next stage, the 200-300 carpet moth eggs become larvae. Here is where they deal the most damage. The larvae are tiny hungry grubs wrapped in a silken case which they drag around with them. Eventually, when they have eaten enough, they will seal their woven case, making a cocoon that looks like a grain of rice. This is one of the most visible phases of carpet moths.

Despite being an insect that naturally lives outdoors, carpet moths can often find their way into homes and start causing havoc with your soft furnishings. White vinegar is a great natural sanitizer that helps to repel moths. See above for details on how to make up an effective solution and use it. Do carpet moths eat clothes? Excellent Service. The kit arrived next day as promised. Good clear instructions only time will tell if we have been successful in eradicating the moths. However happy to recommend this company. Desi-Dust (Natural Diatomaceous Earth):A natural powder that although completely non-toxic to us will break down the outer barrier of an insects body to dehydrate and desiccate it. Pesticide Free, yet very effective at killing insects, larvae and eggs for as long as in position. Should ideally be left in place for 7-10 days Carpet moth larvae only eat Keratin - the protein in natural animal based fibres - they will NOT eat cotton and synthetic fabrics unless they are heavily soiled in food or sweat. Look for signs of damage in woollens, silk and any feather, fur or soft leather items. Sadly the most expensive items of home textiles and furnishings, and the softest materials, will be at greatest risk - think wool carpets, fur throws or rugs, wool or cashmere throws, silk curtains, wool or leather sofas.Carpet moths lay around 200-300 eggs at a time. These eggs are small white spots that are often very hard to see. Once laid as an egg, the full lifecycle of a carpet moth is approximately a year. Where problems arise is in the sheer number of eggs that a carpet moth can lay. My problem area is stairs, halls and landings and consequently I sometimes find carpet moths flying in other rooms although they only seem to munch in this area. I treated the carpet last week and although I have found a few moths in the lounge and bedroom, there are none in the problem area. I am keeping a close watch and if necessary I will re-fog and spray in a few weeks. Very pleased at the moment considering this was a large infestation. Expert Formula ‘P’ Fogger : A powerful fumigating aerosol device specifically designed for safe use within a home, Foggers release an insecticidal gas that expands to completely fill a room, penetrating even hard-to-reach areas to kill all adult moths. Unlike old-fashioned smoke bombs, Foggers do not present any fire risk as they do not require a naked flame; therefore, they should not be confused with smoke bombs marketed elsewhere as 'Foggers', which need to be lit and left smouldering!

This good old household staple can be used for so many things around the home —including deterring carpet and clothes moths. I bought a moth killer spray for my rug. It was delivered the next day and looks like all the beasties have gone! Once they hatch, the larvae will seek out these materials in low-traffic areas of your home. You will notice their effect on the corners of your carpets. In extreme cases, the corners will begin fraying or thinning. Keep an eye out for thinning, as this is a tell-tale sign of a carpet moth infestation. If you have experienced a serious carpet moth infestation and need a faster solution, we strongly recommend trying our Carpet Moth Killer Kit specifically designed to deal with these stubborn pests and to protect your investment in your carpets and rugs. Our best-selling Carpet Moth Treatment Kits contain an optimum combination of the most effective carpet moth killer products including Formula 'C' Moth Spray, Formula 'P' Carpet Moth Powder, fumigating Foggers, and Moth Traps. All Kits are supplied with an advice sheet providing detailed instructions on how to carry out a successful carpet moth treatment and get rid of carpet moths in your home.

The trouble with moths is that you don't know they're nibbling away until it's too late. That's why it's important to detect the problem early, so your first sign of an infestation is a trap full of moths, rather than a jumper full of holes. Then you can move in with the moth repellent. We bought one of the carpet moth kits. Having looked long and hard, this was the best value kit we could find online. Furthermore, it worked brilliantly. No more moths!By trapping the adult moths, you stop them from laying more eggs and breaking the carpet moth’s breeding cycle. 4. Keep your carpets clear of clutter We would also recommend installing a carpet moth trap or two to monitor for future activity and to help break the breeding cycle if adult carpet moths return – they attract the males through emitting the female pheromone. Our Carpet Moth Killer Kits include Moth Prevention Moth Traps for this purpose. The Case-Bearing Carpet Moth ( Tinea pellionella) is a common textile pest which feeds on a substance called keratin, which is present in natural fibres such as wool, cashmere, silk, furs and animal hides. Carpet moth larvae will happily munch their way through the pile of woollen carpets and silk rugs causing irreparable and often costly damage. Adult female moths lay larvae in carpets, which, when hatched, will munch away at a material called keratin. Keratin is found in natural fibres such as wool or silk, making any carpet or clothing with any such content a target. It’s also present in organic matter such as dead skin and hair (that includes pet hair, so if you have a cat or dog in your house you might need to pay special attention).

We are infested with carpet moths - they are horrible! We moved into the flat about 8 months ago and obviously inherited them. Didn't notice them much over the winter (too busy giving birth...) but since the spring they are everywhere. The carpet moth actually goes through four stages during its life cycle: egg, larva, pupa and adult. Once you have an infestation, you have to work hard to clear it. Once you think it is gone, you can ease off and just put mothkillers in your drawers and wardrobes to prevent a recurrence. You may see carpet moth larvae - they are around ¼ to ½ inch long, cream in colour with a darker head. You are unlikely to easily see carpet moth eggs which are white or cream in color and usually fall into the weave or pile of carpets. Items (bug bombs + formula c spray) arrived as promised, seemed effective. Spray goes further than I had expectedMoths are attracted to light and will enter your home if a light is on and they have an easy way to enter,' explains pest control expert Robert. 'For example, leaving a window open with a light on could attract a moth or a few moths into your home. However, if you have a lot of moths in your home, they’re likely coming because they’re drawn to something else in your home. Tip: While you are combating moths, it is a good idea to continue using moth traps to monitor moth activity and to determine when they have been successfully eliminated.
