Osprey is based in Cortez, Colorado. The company is surrounded by some of the most inspiring landscapes on earth! How could they not be inspired? Carry-on compatible: Standards vary, but after talking to friends I decided I wanted something under 22 inches and preferably closer to 20. Carry on dimensions tend to vary between countries and airlines, but bags under 22 inches are usually the safest options. Initially, I thought it would be too large for a long weekend. What I’m really enjoying about the bag, though, is how well it compresses down. Even if I don’t need to fully load it, it still keeps everything organized and doesn’t feel too large. These are good to push your clothes down a little further if the external straps aren’t doing it for you.

The harness held up to long days of walking and the balance and suspension were excellent, even on steep, uneven or cobbled streets. (I’m looking at you, Bruges.) We were caught in a bad downpour in Brussels and never had any water leakage. But there are some issues to look out for before investing in this as your next travel companion. And this wouldn’t be an exhaustive Osprey Fairview review without talking about the pros and cons.The placement is also a bitawkward. Once your laptop is in the sleeve, it prevents the bag from bulging as much as usual. This causes you to lose a small amount of valuable space. Osprey has a great reputation, and a big reason for that is their Almighty Guarantee. This is their term for a lifetime warranty. The ad shows someone storing their sunglasses here, and it’s definitely the perfect size for this, but I wouldn’t recommend this. That’s an easy way to crush your sunglasses.The sternum strap keeps the shoulder straps in place and the load lifters help keep the top of the bag nicely in line with your body. They also offer something they like to call the Almighty Guarantee. It’s a lifetime guarantee for all of their products, including the Osprey Fairview 40 line.

Something to note about all these straps: none but the front compression straps include keepers, so you’ll potentially have a lot of excess dangling if you need to cinch things up tightly. Not a deal breaker, just something to note. If that bugs you, look for a strap management system, like VELCRO Brand Cable Ties. Osprey Fairview 40 | Fabric unrolls to hide away the straps. It’s also an ideal way to keep the straps safe when storing the bag between trips. I tend to leave mine under the bed but there has been more than one occasion where I have found a cat tangled up in it! Even though I could drone on about how much I love my Fairview for hours, don’t just take my word for it. Here is what some of the lovely ladies in the South East Asia Facebook Community had to say about theirs…The laptop storage is better for small laptops. While it can store laptops up to 15 inches, I don’t recommend anything larger than 13 inches. The Osprey Fairview 40 has the right amount of features. It will do everything you need it to do if you’re traveling light. There are internal and external compression straps on theFarpoint. The internal straps are for squashing your luggage down and holding it in place. I have to be honest and say, I never actually use these. I tied mine up the first time I used the bag and haven’t touched them since. My girlfriend, however, used the ones in her Fairview all the time and wouldn’t stop raving about them.
