Description

In seven stories that take place on the strange island of Blessed, two souls seek each other over a period of a thousand years. The overall effect is both magical and disorientating, almost as if the reader has drunk some of the strange orchid tea that features so prominently in the novel. I heard of this from a friend of mine (Ming I'm looking at you) and I had honestly never heard of Marcus Sedgwick. Witch Hill followed in 2001, and was nominated for an Edgar Allan Poe Award, the Independent Reading Association award and the Portsmouth Book Award. A young journalist named Eric arrives on a remote island, where it is rumored that the people live forever.

Their love is strong, however, and through seven lifetimes and seven incarnations they seek to find each other, to reunite in a loving embrace. As histórias avulsas são bem legais e interessantes, mas me deixaram na expectativa por uma conexão que, no fim, não me agradou. Been somewhere that has felt totally familiar even though you've never been there before, or felt that you've known someone even though you are meeting them for the first time? Another awesome offering which emcompasses everything I have come to expect from a Marcus Sedgwick and well worth a look.Other notable award winning books include Floodland, Marcus’ first novel, which won the Branford-Boase Award in 2001, a prize for the best debut novel for children published in the UK each year; My Swordhand is Singing, which won the Booktrust Teenage Prize for 2007, and Lunatics and Luck, part of The Raven Mysteries series, which won a Blue Peter Book Award in 2011.

Later, when enemy soldiers come to Blessed Island to hunt down David, Erik helps him escape to the mainland, but is killed in the process. While Sedgwick definitely has a way with sensory imagery and language, its sparseness both contributed to the mystique of this story, of all of the characters and how they tied into each other and the past(using the relationship web school of worldbuilding), and he can describe a whole lot in only a few words, I feel like he could have expanded upon some of that language, characters, and world just a teeny tiny bit more and still retain how gorgeously dark this book was.

Marcus has also received two Printz Honors, for Revolver in 2011 and The Ghosts of Heaven in 2016, giving him the most citations to date for America’s most prestigious book prize for writing for young adults. Also recommended for fans of the time-crossing elements of Cloud Atlas, as well as the crazy fun of The Wicker Man. I sada na samom kraju, ne znam da li sam ovaj uzdah ispustila zbog toga što je priči kraj ili zato što sam konačno završila ovaj vremeplov koji mi nije dozvolio da prestanem sa čitanjem. As they die, they remember all their lives together and the perfect moments they have shared as they become one with each other in eternal love.

As is always going to be the case with short stories, some caught my imagination more than others, but they were all pretty compelling and well-written. I have no idea why it won the Printz, which is about par for the course for me over the past few years. And since their seventh life was meant to be their last they would never be together again, so all those lives were kind of pointless. uzmite bolje Red Shift, gde imate i istu osnovu zapleta i mnogo bolji a svedeniji stil i upečatljivije likove i beskrajno produbljenije poznavanje istorije i mitologije i bol koji vam srce para umesto Sedžvikove blage njanjavosti.

They're presented as flowers that a) make people on the island live forever, b) make people on the island infertile, c) have healing powers, and d) can also be brewed into a tea that causes forgetfulness.
