Review: Given Massive Attack's background, it was almost inevitable that they'd release a dub overhaul of one of their albums at one point. The friction, though, seems to have create some gems; "Inertia Creeps" is drenched in menace, and "Teardrop" features the ethereal vocals of Liz Fraser of the Cocteau Twins --both of these a benchmark not just for the band, but for the trip-hop genre. To celebrate the album’s twentieth anniversary, Mezzanine has been remastered by Tim Young at Metropolis who has worked with the band for over twenty years. To put it simply, it's brilliant, and arguably remains the Bristol-based outfit's finest work to date (though some would argue that the dark and paranoid Mezzanine is possibly better).

Produced by Massive Attack and Neil Davidge, it saw the duo expanding their trip hop sound to electronica stylings, with diverse influences from new wave, rock, hip hop, and dub music. It's packed with highlights, from the spaced-out, dub-house rework of "Spying Glass" ("I Spy"), to the ricocheting percussion hits and twinkling pianos of "Weather Storm (Cool Monsoon)", and creepy, delay-laden string surges of "Eternal Feedback (Sly)". All-time classics such as "Unfinished Sympathy", "Safe From Harm" and "Hymn of the Big Wheel" have lost none of their soulful, mood-enhancing brilliance, while lesser celebrated cuts such as "Five Man Army" and "Lately" still sound great despite their vintage. Review: By the time they headed into the studio to record Protection, Massive Attack were still riding high on the success of their peerless debut album, Blue Lines.By 'proper' I mean with its full dynamic range (not like their 2012 mix/master of Blue lines, where the dynamics are squashed into a limiter, conversely).

Will usually dispatch within same working day if paid before 14:00 GMT (excludes weekends and holidays). Your speakers and the way they are positioned in the room will be tested hard on Angel, Black Milk and Group Four! It's just a masterpiece that stands the test of time, imo, and it's a shame that there doesn't seem to be a truly high quality version, when the vinyls all seem to suffer from sibilance—maybe others have had better luck, idk. Bristol's original trip-hop pioneers had, on previous albums Blue Lines and Protection, fused turntable wizardry to the warmest of soul. It's very apparent on "Dissolved Girl," as soon as the vocals come in with "shame, s*s*such a shame". The original featured a band photo, which is noticeably absent on this reissue, and overall the basic matt card used, with some template card points still visible/feel-able on the edges) has left me a little underwhelmed. With an influential presence in the music industry since their formation, Massive Attack continues to captivate audiences worldwide with their unique sound and innovative approach to music production. He sees his purchase of OK Computer and underneath it says "if you like this you'll love this even more". Is there anyone else here that would love it if they released some sort of proper 24bit-96kHz+ digital format? These radical re-workings by Mad Professor originally created in 1998 include Teardrop, Angel and Inertia Creeps as well as rarities Wire and Superpredators. Like his take on "No Protection", it's an inspired set of revisions that takes 3D and Daddy G's dense and red-eyed originals into wild new bass-heavy places. Mezzanine topped the charts in the United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand, becoming the group's most commercially successful album to date. years on, the set still sounds sublime: a radical translation that frequently bares only a passing resemblance to the Bristol band's original. The artwork feels a little less than deluxe, to be honest, as it doesn't really offer anything more than the hardback original edition (similar booklet).Of course, we all know the highlights by heart - the stoned bounce of "Karmacoma", evocative downtempo bliss of Tracey Thorn hook-up "Protection", string-drenched lusciousness of "Sly", and the gentle dub-house soul of the Horace Andy-voiced "Spying Glass", for example - but even the forgotten album cuts (see "Weather Storm" and "Better Things") have aged remarkably well. every part of this album is indispensable; absolute masterpiece, and the pinnacle of the trip-hop genre, imo. I consider myself lucky as coloured plastic discs, particularly dark colours, can be troublesome (and the first reviewer here has experienced unacceptable playback issues, possibly as a result). Bristol's original trip-hop pioneers had, on previous albums Blue Lines and Protection , fused turntable wizardry to the warmest of soul. Universal Music will issue a 20th anniversary reissue of Massive Attack‘s third studio album Mezzanine.
