To satisfy more customers, Nike decided to release the Romaleos 4 SE — an alternative version for lifters who have wide feet. The Winner: Tie

Although I’ve never trained in the original Adipowers, I can see why some lifters feel that it is an inferior shoe. The Adipower 3’s are a well-constructed, durable weightlifting shoe. I appreciate the material selection and the fact these shoes have sustainable elements. The stitching and gluing are consistent throughout, and with reinforcements in the interior forefoot and velcro strap, I’m pleased with the long-term prospects. Upper Since the Power Perfect III’s are cheaper than the Adipower II’s, they’re an excellent choice for anyone who wants a durable shoe without breaking the bank. When it comes to hybrid lifting (CrossFit® style workouts), I wouldn’t recommend this shoe. I think their design is much more oriented towards Olympic lifting, but you canuse them in a functional setting. I personally like a flatter heel for CrossFit style workouts, so I think the AdiPower design may be an issue for some lifters in this setting, but that’s my bias. The signature three stripes are enlarged to emphasize the branding but not in an “in your face” way. Putting this shoe and the Powerlift 4 side-by-side, I can’t help but notice how similar their styles are. I do think there are certain lifters who can benefit from this shoe, but there are better shoes on the market for competitive powerlifters and weightlifters. Pros Even though the strap itself is thinner on the Power Perfect III, its higher placement adds more stability around the ankle and helps the foot feel more secure. Midsole Construction and Weight The Adidas AdiPowers are one of Adidas’s most popular lifting shoes to date. They could be considered thein-between model of the Adidas PowerLift (lower heel/powerlifting focused) and the Adidas Leistung models (higher heel/weightlifting focus). In addition, they paved the way for Adidas’s use of the popularized TPU heel.

I’ve had both the Adipowers and Power Perfect’s for a similar amount of time and have trained in each of them an equal amount. Neither one has fallen apart on me, but one shoe stands out as more durable based on the construction alone. Adidas Adipower II There’s a rubber outsole, which helps give it the stability and durability you’ll need in a weightlifting shoe. There’s also a distinct aesthetic difference between the two, and if I didn’t know any better I wouldn’t be able to tell these were the same model at first glance. Adidas Adipower 2 vs. Nike Romaleos 4However, most lifters agree that the canvas fabric of the Powerlift 4 hits the sweet spot between tough and flexible, which translates into exceptional comfort. The Adipower 2 does go easy on feet, but the softness it offers may not be great for powerlifters. Price After analyzing the upper, it’s time to do the same with the midsole. This will give you a better idea about the actual weight of the shoes. Adipower 2 The Adidas Adipower II’s weigh 16.2 oz. The upper is made from a lightweight textile, and the midsole is made out of thermoplastic polyurethane, which is common in lifting shoes. The construction of a lifting shoe can tell you a lot about how it will perform. Although the Adipower II’s and Power Perfect III’s weigh about the same, there are some stark differences between the materials used in each shoe. Adipower II

TPU is more rigid whereas EVA slightly compresses, so under extreme heavyweight, lifters may be a bit thrown off using the latter. Still, EVA heels are far more suited for hybrid shoes to do cross-training. The effective heel height for the Adidas Adipower 2 sits at .79″/20.1mm, which is consistent with the previous model. If you like consistency in your shoe, especially when it comes to heel height, then previous Adipower users will be happy with this construction trait. In terms of flexibility, these definitely weren’t the easiest to break in. They took me a couple weeks to fully break in andget comfortable, but once I did the leather hugged the foot very well. The mesh that makes up the tongue helped with breathability. These weren’t the most breathable shoes I’ve tried, but they never got so hot where they felt uncomfortable like the Nike Romaleos 2s. The Powerlift 4 also sports the signature three-stripe logo on the side of the shoe. What’s really different about this shoe is the foam that lines the collar and the tongue. On the other hand, the Adipower 2 went with a much simpler route. The design here is basic and solid, kind of resembling the construction of Nordic Powerlifting Shoes. The second thing to like about the Adidas Adipower 3 is the reworked canvas and ripstop upper. This model features a durable canvas and ripstop upper that features synthetic overlays covering the toe box and parts of the midfoot. Flexibility: The flexibility of the shoe means they aren’t ideal for very heavy lifts, but they’re good for CrossFit WODs or workouts that combine squats with other movements. Generally speaking, an 0.6-inch heel height is ideal for transitioning from a flatter shoe (such as a Converse) to a more specialized weightlifting shoe. It’s also a better introduction to the lifting world for beginners since it’s not too high that walking around becomes awkward.
