With recipes including Pasta all Genovese, Steak Fiorentine and Tortellini Gino will have his work cut out to keep up with the women running the kitchens which he visits. That’s the point of having family – so they can share the most embarrassing stories of you around the table! About a year ago, I bought a Harley-Davidson Fat Boy special edition and I love it – especially when I take Rocco for a ride in the morning by the sea and get fresh croissants and an espresso. People have this idea that in every Italian family there are secret recipes that get passed down the generations. My journey as a chef is all thanks to two generations of women and this series is about honouring them as well as exploring Italy and local dishes from other families and their matriarchs along the way.

Waited for four months to get it, got it this week gave it as a gift to my husband, who loves to cook and has already enjoyed three amazing dinners! But then it’s time to get busy, and Gino takes on the role of sous chef as his aunts take control of the kitchen and rustle up his favourite dish, Pasta alla Genovese. In the UK, one [of my children] is at school, one’s at work, one is away, and it’s difficult to spend uninterrupted quality time together.

That’s why I try to have a good work-life balance and work for six months and then take six months off and go on holiday. Celebrating the amazing women in all these families, Gino D'Acampo delivers 80 delicious Italian recipes inspired by the women in his life in his new book Gino's Italy.

My favourite things are Sardinian Pecorino cheese or Sardinian Panadas, which is pastry stuffed with mince or vegetables. Nicola said: “This show will see Gino immersed in the culture that fired his passion for cooking and invite viewers to join him as he celebrates the women who nurture and continue the traditions that make Italian food the centre of family life with all the warmth, humour and wisdom that brings. It's widely thought that recipes in Italian families are passed from generation to generation and it's absolutely true - much to the envy of the rest of us.

Gino’s Italy: Like Mamma Used To Make is a six-part series that starts on ITV on Sunday September 4 at 7. I'm currently TV Content Director on What's On TV, TV Times, TV and Satellite Week magazines plus Whattowatch.

Cooking for Phillip [Schofield] and Holly [Willoughby] is one of my favourite things to do and I consider them friends. I visit Procida [an island in the Bay of Naples] which I enjoyed as I grew up near the ocean, so I love anything to do with the sea. Headed by Joint Creative Directors David Harrison and Helen Cooke, Betty TV has a rich heritage of producing popular factual formats which tell incredible stories with diverse characters. He kicks off in Gino’s birthplace, Torre del Greco, where a Gino was taught to cook by his late Nonna Flora and Mamma Alba. The series will be accompanied by a standalone cookbook, Gino’s Italy: Like Mamma Used to Make, published by Bloomsbury. With over 80 recipes for the ultimate Italian classics, ranging from quick weeknight meals to classic blowouts, this is Gino's most iconic book yet. Drawing on the wisdom of his late mother, his fifteen bossy aunties, and a whole nation of home-cooking nonnas, Gino shares the secrets to making the very best version of much-loved Italian classics.
