They are such a joyous interpretation of the brief – which was to find an inspiration source and then to work within your limitations to use the Skystone Armwarmers design as a framework for putting together a palette and celebrating your inspiration source in knitting. I love how Sarah has contextualised her approach to the brief in her notes on Ravelry: Work in 1×1 rib (k1, p1) until piece measures 2.5 (2.5, 3, 4, 4)” from cast-on. Switch to larger needles. For us beginners not understanding the decreases – I think I’ve figured out why I was confused…there’s the beg of round marker (BOR) & the placed marker (PM) that was put in during the set up round at the halfway point. Instructions: [k1, ssk, knit to 3 sts before marker, k2tog, k1] twice. To be totally clear for us newbies: starting at BOR marker: k1, ssk, knit to 3 sts before new PM, k2tog, k1. Then continue with the “twice” part: k1, ssk, knit to 3 sts before BOR marker, k2tog, k1. Personally, my BOR marker was way down hanging on the cuff & even though I knew it was supposed to be decreasing on both sides, I was only decreasing before & after the newly placed marker & not the 3 sts before the BOR marker. I was just knitting to 3 sts before the new PM again & bypassing the BOR marker because I didn’t have it up on my current round because… DPNs. I think that’s right…I won’t know until I do the second mitten; nonetheless, if this isn’t right, I hope it helps someone figure out what is! I followed the colour choosing method from the video, but only from what I had in stash, tweed single ply. Do you feel as if you're always misplacing one of your mittens or perhaps the full set? If so, you have come to the right place. You can work up one of these patterns in a short amount of time, so you never need to worry about your fingers being cold when the temperature starts to drop. Knitted mittens also make a perfect knit gift for any family member or friend.

Most of the mitten patterns below are available in a variety of sizes. Since you’re going to take the time to knit your mittens, it’s a good idea to measure the hand size rather than simply choosing the size that sounds best. It’s no fun to end up with a pair of mittens that doesn’t fit correctly! You’ll find that most of the patterns include measurements for each size. Make a gauge swatch.

Continue knitting every round until the piece measures 1.75 (3, 3.75, 4, 4.5)” from end of thumb gusset. Besides those of course, throughout the years we’ve shared the following collections: 33 Baby Blankets, 50 Baby Booties, 30 Chunky Blankets and Afghans, 27 Cushion Covers, 20 Tea Cosies, 35 Items for Premature Babies, 6 Patterns for Breast Hats, 60+ Scarf Patterns, 24 Mug Coasters, 27 Washcloths (and some dishcloths too!), 23 Baby Hats and 45+ Baby Cardigans.

It’s my weekly digest for Yarnadelic Remixes 0.1 and this set of prompts speaks to the creative context around Muriel’s wonderful design, Looking For A Stranded Harmonium. For each design in Yarnadelic Remixes 0.1, Muriel and I did a deep dive into the musical context for the song(s) that inspired us. Beadism and Looking For A Stranded Harmonium were both inspired by Music For A Found Harmonium– the context for which is a fascinating mix of global folk influences, and Minimalism (a musical movement which was itself largely influenced by the classical music traditions of India). I found an amazing book about Minimalism called On Minimalism: Documenting A Musical Movement, by Kerry O’Brien and William Robin. I love how they outline or define Minimalist music, and feel there are so many crossovers with what they are speaking to – meditative, repetitive, durational – that apply as much to “tuning in” to our knitting as they do to listening to Minimalist music. For maximum experimental (knit) and (sound) joy, I recommend listening to Minimalist music while knitting on a Sequence Knitting project. Look at that colorwork! This pattern is inspired by Freja, the Nordic goddess of love and fertility. As such, there are beautiful heart motifs throughout, including smaller hearts on the flip side too. GET THE PATTERN Last year I received a message from Dawn on Ravelry that made my day. After many months of planning to translate an everyday inspiration source into stranded colourwork, she had succeeded in producing a most glorious pair of mitts.

Chunky: work rounds 1-3 a total of 3 (3, 4, 4, 5) times, 9 (9, 11, 11, 13) sts between BOR and marker. Today we’re sharing knitting patterns for something we all need, and probably also love, to wear throughout the cold Winter months… gloves! If you’re a relatively new knitter, you might be daunted about the idea of knitting gloves, but don’t worry… our collection of over 40 patterns include a number which are ideal for beginners, and we’ve also included some mitten patterns which you can start off with. There are a number of patterns which are unisex in style, whilst others and ideal for men and others for women. and Ellen Fullman building The Long String Instrument, in which extended lengths of piano wire resonate for hugely extended amounts of time. Is this another way of hearing the fingers and wires working “in relation”?
