Description

Brought together in one volume are the three remarkable tales of Nurse Matilda – Nurse Matilda, Nurse Matilda Goes to Town and Nurse Matilda Goes to Hospital.

I can’t help but wonder if that person finished the book or actually gave up on page 371, never to read any more! This is a book with a difference however, as interspersed between the story are Emma's film diaries from the set of the Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang film. This amount includes seller specified domestic postage charges as well as applicable international postage, dispatch, and other fees.Having delighted generations of readers since their first publication in the sixties, the books have now formed the inspiration for the newly-released and fabulous Nanny McPhee, written and adapted for the big screen by Emma Thompson who stars as Nanny McPhee opposite Colin Firth as Mr Brown. I don't remember the first movie very much, but I saw the 2nd one last year (when I got to interview Emma Thompson! If you are interested in the insider scoop on movie-making, in addition to the film diary, you will enjoy my post on Emma Thompson’s Advice to Aspiring Actors at 5 Minutes for Mom today. The family is financially supported by Cedric's late wife's domineering and short-sighted great-aunt Lady Adelaide Stitch, who demands custody over one of the children. To make matters worse, her estranged sister sends her two very rich, very spoilt children to live on the farm to escape the bombs in London, but they are immediately at loggerheads with their rather wild country cousins.

What really sank this collection for me was the sheer proliferation and uniformity of the Brown children. The entire book reads as if it’s in Emma Thompson’s voice (I would know since I was able to participate in a half-hour interview with Emma Thompson, right?Cedric swiftly understands his children do not like the bride and, recognizing that she is not right for him or his children, joins in the commotion himself. wittily written, this gives a delightful insight into the craft of film-making and the accidents (Rhys Ifans breaking a foot playing football) that can hold things up, and will provide lots of trivia-spotting for children who watch it on the big screen . This book is delightful and charming, and as someone who saw the movie first, I was not disappointed. What they get instead is Nurse Matilda, a magical woman who is able to hoist them with their own petards with just one rap of her big, black stick.

The book has a lovely, personal style that I enjoyed very much, and I think the warty noses, bare bottoms and burping jackdaws will go down very well with children. Brown is alive and well, whereas in the first film she is dead, having fallen ill after the birth of the youngest child, Agatha.

I was worried that they would be too sugary and all the same, like the Mary Poppins books which I stopped reading after about the third one.
