It's another that could have come from the "White Album" as band mixes bucolic folk with a bit of blues before getting lost in a spell of extended what-does-that-knob-do twiddling but all the while remembering that they're a guitar-led rock band, it's at least as good a way to close the difficult second album as "Champagne Supernova" and that's saying something [and if anything here is close to mentor Paul Weller's solo sound then it's probably this track]. In fact, there's a pastoral poignancy to much of Moseley Shoals which owes more to, say, Fairport Convention than mentor/mate Paul Weller . December saw the limited edition release of a double CD/DVD release of the band's Moseley Shoals gig at O2 Academy Birmingham, which was filmed on 26 February 2011. A low-key start to their career was boosted by two things – the endorsement of two of Britain's biggest pop stars – Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher, and the exposure given to the first single, The Riverboat Song, by Chris Evans on his hit TV show 'TFI Friday'.The band had formed during the height of Madchester, but they never released their first album until the scene was already dead, which left them without a following.

The Downstream" is a fabulous slow bluesy ballad, another that's in late sixties Stones territory with Simon Fowler again channelling his Jagger, leaving the singles aside this is probably my favourite track, although the knob-twiddling with which it ends is an unnecessary indulgence. They sprinkle Beatlesque and Stonesy flourishes throughout the album, as well as the odd prog rock flair, adding an even more eclectic flavor to their traditionalist pop/rock. Magic Carpet Days", the first single from Saturday, was released on 25 January, followed by the album a few days later. In 2023 the band released a career-spanning box set entitled Yesterday, Today 1992–2018, which contained all their studio albums and 5 bonus CDs, totalling 230 tracks. Moseley’ takes its name from an area in Birmingham, ‘ Moseley Shoals’ is a tribute to Muscle Shoals, the legendary soul recording studios in Alabama. Listening to the opening bars of "40 Past Midnight" I can't help think of the Rolling Stones' "Let's Spend the Night Together", helped by Fowler channelling his inner Jagger.
