Say hello to a book that will have you laughing with every page, whether you're twenty, forty or eighty - Heat You may also be interested in. I’m ten years younger than Nell but there were still some parts of her struggle that I could relate to. With grateful thanks to NetGalley, Pan MacMillan and Alexandra Potter for my advance ebook in exchange for an honest review. Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up is a funny, heartwarming commentary on how society norms -particularly for women- and pressure from the media can make us feel like failures, when actually we’re not. Secondly, always remember that the family will always end up with you when you had nobody to look for.

One of the reasons I was initially wary about the title, when I came across it for the very first time, was simply this: I'm not a forty-something (I'm a thirty-something). When her business goes bust and her fiancé with it, Nell's happy ever after in California falls apart and she moves back to London to start over. Plenty of the pages made me laugh and smile, and there were a lot of interesting issues raised within the story.

In a complete spur of the moment, Nell decides to start a podcast talking about her life and feelings. We also get to read more about Nell’s group of friends, who, as we learned in the first book, may be following the traditional path, but who are just as scared and unsure as the rest of us. Man gan vēl ir tikai trīsdesmit ar kaut ko, bet kā f**k up (neveiksminiece būtu adekvāts latviskojums? But when she starts a secret podcast and forms an unlikely friendship with Cricket, an eighty-something widow, things begin to change.

The childless slant was quite relentless in this story, but as all light reads it wasn't meant to be taken too harshly, and all sides ended up being explored. Confessions of a Forty-Something Fk Up is perfect comfort reading for anyone who thinks life isn’t working out as they want it to, whether they’re forty, fourteen or eighty-four - Chrissie Manby You may also be interested in. I despaired with Nell as she dealt with a number of common problems faced by forty somethings, there were funny moments, but also areas of pure understanding. New yummy mummy Annabel has entered the group since Nell has been in America and she seems to be asserting her dominance over Nell’s best friend Fiona, who is completely enamoured with her.

Nell feels left behind and drastic measures see her taking up residence in a small flat in a shared house arrangement. But this book definitely reminded me of the things that I had laid out and thought back to where I used to think I'd end up ten years later and then ended up laughing because now I can't even imagine going by that plan. Confessions of a Forty-Something F**k Up by Alexandra Potter is out now in eBook and will be published in hardback by Macmillan on 31st December 2020.

It had everything I was looking for in a novel and I hope others pick this up and love it as much as I did. This is what we all want and this is what I try to do when my mum friends talk to me about their problems. Nell soon takes a job writing obituaries for a newspaper, and although the pay isn’t much, there are some perks of the job: mainly, that Nell meets Cricket, an eighty-something widow who introduces Nell to life drawing classes and true crime podcasts. Penelope or Nell as she prefers has moved back to the UK after breaking up with her American Fiancée.It seems that actually they do not see their future invested in the same things and break off their engagement. An editor, Nell secured a job with an old colleague crafting epilogues, and this is how she found a firm friend in Cricket, a newly widowed octogenarian.
