The syrup contains sodium alginate which works on the acid in your stomach to form a thick gel-like layer. Each tablet contains sodium alginate 500 mg and potassium bicarbonate 100 mg as the active ingredients. Gaviscon Advance’s extra strength formulation has twice the concentration of sodium alginate - forming a strong and resilient ‘raft’ in the process.
