Description

If you’re very thorough and shave your legs, abdomen, armpits, and chest and do a bit of manscaping as well, you probably won’t be able to do it on a single charge. The body of the Norelco BG2020 is made entirely out of plastic, except for the rubberized ON/OFF button on the front. With the Bodygroom 7000 (BG7030/49 and BG7040/42), the only part that will need to be changed once it wears out is the foil head. Finally, you can completely shave the hair by using the foil. It works just like a regular foil shaver and does a pretty good job. At first, I was a bit reluctant at using it without a comb. If you’ve ever used a regular hair trimmer before for body grooming you know what I’m talking about.

And yes, you can use it directly on the testicles. Just make sure to use slow, controlled strokes as it can still pinch the skin and trust me, it’s no fun. Trimming And speaking of the blades, they’re regular blades, just like the ones you would find on hair clippers.

Since this is a hybrid groomer, combining the functionality of a shaver and a trimmer, we’ll evaluate each of them separately. Shaving With the BG7040/42, Philips will throw in a travel case and an extra shaving head, so you may want to consider that one if the price is right.

According to the manufacturer, it should last for up to 12 months and from previous experience, I can say that it’s definitely achievable. The shaving head can move up and down and also sideways. In my opinion this is unnecessary for a body trimmer and it was actually extremely annoying with the previous BG2040 as it caused the head to skip over the skin and occasionally pinch. The cost isn’t bad, but when considering the singular use case, it’s on the slightly high side. But it does that single task very well. I have been testing it for over two months, so I think I have a good idea of its strengths and weaknesses.

Table of Contents

The foil (which is hypoallergenic) is extremely similar to what you would find on a regular foil electric shaver. There’s no charging stand with any of the two models and the groomers can only be charged by plugging the cord directly into a charging port. Battery life and charging The Bodygroom, already our preferred option in blade type, also outperformed the field in battery life, with a two-hour average run time. The Braun performed worse, at only an 80-minute run time. Apart from lubricating, it also dissolves any mineral deposits from the blades, which can be a problem in time, especially if your tap water is hard. Replacement parts availability In my case, because of folliculitis and irritation, I cannot shave the hair at skin level on most body parts, so I must use the trimmer.

So they don’t have rounded tips like the ones on the shaver end of the BG7030, so they will cut the skin if you use them without the comb, which you totally shouldn’t. The other shaver in the all-in-one use category, the Remington PG6025, was a little more refined, but still looked and felt like something meant for your face, not for your body. Most of the time though, the trimming and cutting will involve both the foil and one of the blades. You can even use up and down strokes over the same area, but the most efficient way is to lead with the lower blade. It’s the same part used by other Philips body groomers and has the part number BG2000 (in the USA) or TT2000 (international). You can use the three attachment combs if you just want to trim the fuzz; these work great for areas like the chest or wherever you want longer hair (3mm, 7mm or 10mm). The Bodygroom on the other hand clearly understood the main problems and concerns of the activity and solved all of them with their two-sided trimmer, one of which is great for trimming chest hair to whatever length you specify, and the other that’s good for trimming any to-the-skin area you might want without causing cuts or scrapes. Better yet, the two-sided design means less attachment swapping/finding, which could cut down on potential misplaced parts that you may incur with the other units you might be considering. As you can see from our shot, the Philips Multigroom resembles a vampire. It’ll function great as a weapon to ward off criminals, but it clearly doesn’t feel, function, or look like something you’d want to use for precision below the belt. When placing it in the stand make sure that the green led from the adapter will light up to indicate that it is charging. You really don’t want to leave it there for 8 hours just to find out that it didn’t charge at all.
