It's meant to make things music sound as flat as possible — that way, you're getting an accurate picture of what your song actually sounds like. Which makes it easier to mix and get a good translation from speaker to speaker. Capeesh? These headphones featurededicated volume control on a separate extension cable, which is a unique and handy add-on. The German-made DT 770 PRO reconciles luxury with affordability. It features hard plastic cups, a wideheadbandwith metal parts, and large velourear pads. No, I wasn’t throwing them on the floor or anything like that. But I did have a sense that I was using something that wouldn’t immediately fall apart if it fell on the floor by accident.

The Sony MDR 7506 headset, as most audio engineers would agree, has become an (unofficial) industry standard for recording, broadcasting, and mixing. The microfiber cushions have memoryfoampaddingand feel great to touch. The silicon paddedheadbandis made of robust but flexible plastic.

The clamping force is firm but comfortable once you adjust it to the optimal size and the earpads and cables are replaceable. The defined mid-range, soaring highs, and exacting sound reproduction canadd some sweet-easy to your workflow. Simply put, you want headphones without ‘bleed,’ that aren’t too colored and are comfortable enough to wear for long hours.

Sure, there are a few tradeoffs, but these evergreen cans are durable, affordable, and offer excellent value for money. Features MusicRadar verdict: KRK’s headphones continue to offer great sonics and excellent value. Each model is best suited to different tasks, but the added comfort and overall fidelity of the KNS 8402 make it our preferred choice. KRK KNS Series headphones: SpecificationsWhen it comes to the KRK KNS 8402, whether you should or shouldn’t buy it ultimately comes down to exactly what you are using them for. The KRK KNS 8402 also has an optional in-line volume control that is placed in between the headphone and the cable. These no-frills cans may look utilitarian, but they are incrediblydurableand comfy. They ship with a carry pouch, adetachable cable, and a ¼ inch adapter. A new standard in headphone comfort, even over extended periods of use, designed to avoid feeling uncomfortable during long sessions. The special foam conforms to the ear to help ensure an improved fit.

Overall, this refresh has clearly impacted the KNS 8402 the most and this now has a slightly different sonic signature and an overall more professional look. That said, both models are still robust, repairable and very competitively priced headphones. Extremely worthy of your attention. However, the new addition has the same versatility with a more comfortable design. Invest in one of these to experienceoptimalsound qualityand supreme comfort. A number of online comments concerned the treble of the 8400's - many people described it as "rough" and fatiguing, and there are some frequency graphs out there that showed a somewhat messy high frequency response. The treble of the 8402's sounds fine to me, but sometimes I find the phones a bit fatiguing after an hour of so of use. Listening to the sweep warble tones, there seems to be substantial peak around 2000-3000 hz, and I'm wondering if this over-emphasis is also contributing to the slight hollowness I'm hearing in the sound. As mentioned earlier, the KRK KNS 8402 is every bit the updated heir to the sound throne that was the KRK KNS 8400. Thefrequencyresponse is not the widest, but it is good enough forstudio professionalstorecord vocalsreliably.

The headphones ship with a storage pouch and gold-plated Unimatch stereo adaptors (3.5 mm and 6.3 mm). Finally, comfort. This is the one category I have to give to the 7506's, I could wear those headphones for hours on end and forget I was wearing them. However, the 8400's are very close. My ONLY complaint is the headband, I wish the padding was more evenly distributed (to distribute the weight of the headphones) rather than designed to where it creates two distinct pressure points. It does cause very mild discomfort to where I find myself adjusting the position of the headband occasionally during longer periods of use. With that said, though, I consider comfort to be of profound importance to me and still decided the 8400's are desirable enough to keep and enjoy. The ear pads and clamping force of the headphones are very nice and relaxed, very comfortable. I have normal ears and a slightly larger head and have no complaints in either of those areas, the ear pads encompass my ears completely and isolate relatively well. Comfort: Outstanding. There's really nothing more to say. These things are as comfortable as my old Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro's, which were the most comfortable headphone I've used. There were some complaints about the headband on the 8400, which uses two separate pads which some people complained could cause pressure points. On my head, at least, this simpy is not an issue with the similarly-designed 8402 headband.. Clamping for is just right, the seal is excellent, and the headphones don't seem sensitive to placement on one's head. I wear glasses and they seem to have no effect on the sound quality.
