Description

Mitch Rapp’s high school sweetheart Maureen Eliot, who was attending Syracuse University with Rapp, was killed in the December 21, 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103. One year later he was recruited into the Central Intelligence Agency by Irene Kennedy. She wasn’t sure that was entirely true. Her relationship with his predecessor had been one of mutual respect and occasionally even warmth. Cook seemed to be incapable of either. He was a ruthless man, though one with an admittedly impressive grasp of history and America’s challenges going forward. A born politician who had spent his life immersed in that world but who still managed to portray himself as an outsider. A common man who had infiltrated the political elite and was now positioned to transform it. When Mitch Rapp captures ISIS’s top technology expert, he reveals that he was on his way to meet a man who claims to have the ability to bring down America’s power grid. Rapp is determined to eliminate this shadowy figure, but the CIA’s trap fails.

Kyle Mills continues year after year to prove that he was the perfect choice to continue the Mitch Rapp series after the death of the great Vince Flynn.ENEMY AT THE GATE is a superb novel of espionage, sabotage, political realities in today’s world, intrigue. It accurately depicts jungle warfare as it occurs in isolated regions of the world. Cannibalism is not an unheard of activity in the Third World. It is fighting at its most savage. Honestly, the first half of the book dragged and was a slow read. However, when Mitch goes into the field on his mission things really spice up and without giving away any spoilers you will be glued to the book for the last eight chapters. Except to scream, want to pull your hair, and cry. Talk about an emotional rollercoaster for those of us who have read the first nineteen Mitch Rapp novels. Be sure to catch my interview with Kyle Mills! The desk of the president’s secretary—a barely controlled disaster over the last two administrations—was now the picture of minimalist, high-tech efficiency. As was the woman sitting behind it. First, there’s no question that we need to send a team to Uganda to try to find Chism. We know how Ward feels about us but to date he hasn’t gotten too deeply involved in politics. We don’t need him rethinking that and staking out a position against your administration. I think we both agree there’s no chance of turning him into an ally, but if we do him this favor, we might be able to neutralize him as an enemy.”

It is a Mitch Rapp novel, so you expect action. Enemy At The Gates does not disappoint. There are multiple action scenes including an assault that features the defenders using a water cannon (I won’t spoil the scene by telling you more). Where Mr. Mills outdid himself was the way he made scenes without action have the same tension and draw as the action scenes do. This was especially true near the end of the book. Kennedy brings some startling concerns to the president, that there is someone within the Agency scouring through sensitive intel and providing it to America’s enemies. The crux of the data leaks relate to Nicholas Ward, the world’s richest man. His work in the pharmaceutical field could change the lives of many, but if he falls into the wrong hands, there could be serious repercussions. President Cook agrees and allows Mitch Rapp to head out, in hopes of protecting Ward on the other side of the world. Mitch Rapp the CIA’s top counterterrorism operative is called to take the chaos in control. He intended to hunt down anyone who comes in his way to rescue the president. His task becomes more difficult when he learns that the insider of the white house is involved in the entire fiasco. Kill Shot

Table of Contents

Writing is OK yet sometimes really bad. Story line is OK yet unfinished, ending leaves you hanging like WTF just happened? Where is the real ending to the story! I guess they are motivated to sell you the next book and do not care if you are satisfied with this one. Also the ending involves about 15 min of rambling verbosity from a character who thinks (out of character from previous books) that they know the world better than most, thus giving him the right to assassinate Mitch, the world's 1st trillionaire and the world's leading pandemic doctor. Irene and I are in the same business—we both want to keep people safe and healthy. That’s landed us at a few of the same conferences and participating on the same panels.” He flashed the everyman smile that he was known for. “I figure the fact that she hasn’t had me killed yet makes us friends.”

Kudos, Mr. Mills, for another great piece. I am eager to see where you will take us in the coming years! Mitch Rapp has worked for a number of presidents over his career, but Anthony Cook is unlike any he’s encountered before. Cunning and autocratic, he feels no loyalty to America’s institutions and is distrustful of the influence Rapp and CIA director Irene Kennedy have in Washington. U.S. President cares more for his bank acct than his country and willing to commit treason to enhance his wealth.

Need Help?

My understanding is that the facility burned,” Kennedy said. “It seems likely that they were inside.” Fun Fact: Kyle Mills initially found inspiration from his father who was the former director of Interpol.

I came into writing from kind of a strange angle. When I graduated from college in the late eighties, I had the same dream as everyone else at the time—a corporate job, a nice car, and a house with lots of square footage. First, I am very grateful that Kyle Mills has continued the Vince Flynn legacy. It is Vince's first novels (along with Clancy) that drew me into the genre enough that it prompted myself to start writing. Mitch Rapp could not have been left in better hands as the stories continue. It’s a bit of a tightrope walk but I imagine a doable one. Make enough of an effort to impress Ward but not so much that we have any chance of succeeding. And make sure that the right people know they owe us for that failure.” The storyline opens with an assessment by Mitch Rapp and CIA’s Irene Kennedy of the condition of the nation after a government traitor took out the nation’s electrical grid for a month. It triggered a domino effect of hundreds of thousands of dead Americans from cold, violence, and absence of medical care. Exploding substations caused devastating fires and the world economy collapsed without its most powerful engine - us. Here are the short biographies of 3 friends of Rapp who play a significant role in Enemy at the Gates:
