Description

This product is a crystal made from potassium alum - a natural mineral salt - and sits on the surface of the skin in a microscopic layer, where it kills bacteria. Ammonium alum is another one you'll commonly find in this type of product. a few drops of essential oils of your choice, good choices could be tea tree, lavender, or geranium. I like lavender because it’s gentler for skin. Sometimes it seems like baking soda is everywhere, like a miracle cure-all, fix-all, clean all-natural products which makes me suspicious. Personally, I’m not a fan. Baking soda can be extremely irritating to skin, especially on something as sensitive as freshly shaved armpits. It’s very budget-friendly, paraben-free, aluminium-free fragrance-free, definitely not tested on animals and will provide the long-lasting protection you’re looking for, even under extreme conditions. What more could you ask for in a deodorant?

Dr Olioso says: 'It contains good active ingredients, so should be effective, but be aware that arrowroot - the most abundant ingredient - might leave white marks.'According to Green People, potassium alum is a much larger molecule, so it can’t be absorbed by the skin.

With a base of sunflower oil, rosemary and aloe vera, this deodorant also contains prebiotics to support the skin’s good flora and reduce bacterial growth. Not only have I not received any of the oozing rashes that I used to receive using basically any possible aluminum-free, natural or even terribly bad deodorants, but my underarms have never looked and felt so good! I’m so, so, soooo thankful! Is the aluminum in natural crystal deodorants dangerous? That is a question that remains unanswered. How much aluminum is absorbed from delicate underarm tissue? No one has a good answer. That in itself is astonishing, since tens of millions of people use products with aluminum every day. They do this for decades. If aluminum is absorbed, does it pose any health risk? Aluminum in Cooking Utensils? There are also studies indicating that aluminum exposure from deodorant use has been linked to rising incidence of Alzheimer’s disease. However, the results of the one study that evaluated persistent aluminum-containing deodorant use and Alzheimer’s had inconclusive results. Aluminium chloride and Aluminium chlorohydrate have a small molecular size and work as antiperspirants by entering sweat ducts and reacting with amino acids and peptides to form a gel. This gel then plugs the sweat duct and prevents sweating. Remember that deodorant from mineral salts does not serve as an antiperspirant, so you will still sweat. However, the sweat should not create body odor because bacteria growth is being prevented with the potassium alum. Conclusion As your hands should be clean, this might not be so practical with a deodorant you want to take on the go. It works to kill bacteria and prevent body odor. Instead of clogging your pores so the moisture doesn’t create a habitable environment for bacteria, this mineral salt deodorant prevents bacterial growth, while letting your pores excrete sweat.

If using powder, just mix alum and water in a beaker or any other appropriately sized glass or cup. Stir slightly. There might be some excess alum in the bottom, you can add a bit more water or discard/save the powder for next time. Pour the mix into your spray bottle. One user told us the deodorant had done a 'decent' job but that it sometimes needed to be reapplied during the day. Using a natural deodorant could make your body odour improve over time as it will allow good bacteria to survive in your armpits. As for its eco credentials, Akt has a stylish recyclable aluminium tube and cap, and comes in cardboard boxes. Alum has been used for a very long time in reservoirs to clarify water. That is, it helps suspended particles settle to the bottom so they can be removed. It has also been used as a remedy for canker sores and in a styptic pencil to stop bleeding after shaving. That said, there is no doubt that alum contains aluminum, often hydrated potassium aluminum sulfate (potassium alum). Anyone who thinks that using a natural crystal deodorant eliminates aluminum is kidding herself. How Concerned Should We Be About Aluminum? Aluminum potassium sulfate anhydrous can be obtained by heating the dodecahydrate form to 200 ℃ to remove the crystal water, but too high temperature will easily produce aluminium oxide.
