FOLLOWING a hugely successful Weekend of Legends last season, Rangers are delighted to announce that the Weekend of Legends II, presented in partnership with 5 Stars, will take place in March 2023. World football icon Luís Figo will captain a phenomenal array of talent at Ibrox for an unforgettable game against a Rangers Legends team on Saturday, March 26 at 3pm, before a special dinner takes place on the evening of March 26. Rangers’ First Team Coach Roy Makaay will also join the occasion by playing for the World Legends team and sampling a taste of what’s sure to be a sell-out Ibrox as a player. Alex McLeish was in the dug-out for the Light Blues with Robbie Fowler taking charge of the visitors but charity was the real winner on the day with a crowd of around 30,000 turning out. Gough helped Rangers win each of their nine-in-a-row league titles, alongside three Scottish Cups and six League Cups. While the Scottish Football Writers’ Association even named him as its Player of the Year in 1988/89. A Gers player had not won the SFWA title since 1977/78. Okay, they might have lost a yard of pace - they’re not quite at the walking football stage yet - and gained a few inches around the waistline but plenty showed they still have the quality. It is the second year the event has been hosted in Govan. Last year, the Ibrox favourites from yesteryear took on a team led by Luis Figo. The visitors narrowly won 3-2, with Shota Arveladze netting before an emotional late goal from Paul Gascoigne received a big response from fans. Former Porto and Portugal star Ricardo Quaresma got the winner after Carlos Marchena and Nuno Gomes also hit the target. Read More Related ArticlesBut who is taking part this time around? Record Sport has all the confirmed names so far. Rangers XI Luís, Giovanni and Roy will star alongside a World Legends squad featuring Roberto Carlos, Gheorghe Hagi, Robert Pires and a Rangers Legends team featuring former heroes such as Paul Gascoigne, Kris Boyd, Michael Mols, Saša Papac and Nikica Jelavić. Some of those on show still looked in decent shape. Defoe and Van Persie, for example, were sharp and bright and both took their goals with the quality that they were famed for during their careers. Rangers recognised Tavernier, plus fellow modern-day legends Allan McGregor and Steven Davis, for their iconic contributions. Tavernier joined the club whilst they were competing in the Scottish Championship and helped to secure the title in his debut campaign at the club. It was a day of celebration at Ibrox as the highlight of Rangers' 150th anniversary events finally arrived.

The message Rangers must send to Celtic as derby dominator pinpoints the key detail needed to reignite title race Jermaine Defoe put in a man of the match performance but it wasn't enough for the Rangers Legends to see off a World XI.No sooner in the contest it was all-square at three-a-piece. Defoe this time linked up with Kris Boyd who appeared as a half-time substitute and, after finding himself in the area, he saw his initial strike kept out well before smashing in the rebound from the angle as the Ibrox faithful saw a sixth goal on the day. Figo's countryman Nuno Gomes then flipped the scoreline on its head when he beat Neil Alexander in the home goal with an excellent.

One day with Smith was enough to convince future Rangers legend Paul Gascoigne to move to Ibrox from Lazio. He was one of the most naturally gifted Englishmen of all time and chose to join the Gers for his return to Britain in 1995. The next three years were the stuff of icons. WORLD LEGENDS: James, Huth, Stam, Dawson, Chimbonda, Essien, Petit, Downing, Wilshere, Van Persie, Yakubu As part of the weekend’s activities, we also look forward to supporting the Rangers Charity Foundation and the 150th Anniversary Appeal. The forward from Hamilton left a lasting impression on those he played with and against as a master of control. Cooper dictated where the ball went and glid beyond defenders with ease at the drop of his shoulder. While his wonderful left foot fashioned a host of precise crosses.A consummate professional, Richard Gough became a Rangers legend over his two stints at Ibrox. The defender briefly departed the Glasgow giants after a decade in 1997 to try his skill in America with Kansas City Wizards. But he would return to Ibrox to enjoy one more season. Rangers Legend Kris Boyd continued: “Rangers’ 150th anniversary is a proud moment for every supporter and the Weekend of Legends will allow fans and some of the world’s most iconic players to come together and celebrate this incredible milestone. On Sunday March 26, a star-studded Rangers Legends squad will play a World Legends squad full of global talent at Ibrox stadium at 2pm. Jim Baxter had a wand of a left foot to establish himself not only as a Rangers legend but as one of Scotland’s greatest-ever players. The midfielder was an influential presence with the Gers and his country. ‘Slim Jim’ also supplied one of his best games to beat England in 1963.
