Jump to Recipe Slow cooker gammon in coke Slow cooker gammon in coke is the easiest dinner you can make. The coke adds a delicious sweetness that balances the saltiness of the gammon making it a hit for all the family. While they are doing that, carefully remove your ham from the slow cooker and put it in an oven dish/baking tray. You’ve created the perfect holiday menu for your family’s upcoming gathering. But there’s one problem: You only have one oven and limited refrigerator space for make-ahead side dishes. Your slow cooker can help you reheat the ham. Place cooked ham slices in a slow cooker on low along with some additional liquid—more ginger ale will do, but you can add broth, barbecue sauce, hoisin sauce, orange juice or apple cider. Cook until heated through.

While you may be tempted to blast your ham on high (we’re just reheating it, after all), warm your ham in a slow cooker low and slow. Warming a ham on high runs a higher risk of drying out the ham and making it tough. Using your slow cooker’s low setting will yield a ham that’s much more juicy, tender and flavorful. Let the ham restCold water – enough to cover the gammon (The amount of water will change depending on the size of the ham joint. Just use enough to cover the top of the ham) Split peas are nutritious and a great source of protein and fibre, as well as iron and potassium. They’re also low in fat. So yes, they’re really good for you! Do the split peas need soaking? Using a sharp knife, score a criss-cross pattern in the ham fat, cutting lines about 2.5cm/1in deep and 2cm/¾ in apart.

Put a cup of water (about 240ml) in the base; this should be enough liquid without touching the gammon. Use less water if your slow cooker is smaller and coming too close to the gammon. Carefully remove the ham from the slow cooker and transfer it to a large carving board. Tent with foil and let it rest for 15 to 20 minutes. Then, using an electric carving knife, cut the ham into even slices and arrange them on a platter. Serve warm and enjoy. Put the gammon, onion and 100ml/3½fl oz water in the slow cooker, cover with the lid and cook on low for 6–8 hours, or until the pork is thoroughly cooked. The longer the gammon is cooked, the more like pulled ham it will become. The size can vary, we have used a small 1.3kg round joint in this recipe, which is available all year around. This slow cooker gammon will be an absolute hit with everyone at your table. So, you may not have much left. But if you did then you can store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze slices of it for up to 3 months. Bone-in Ham vs. Boneless Ham: The ham bone helps prevent the meat from drying out. Plus, you can use the leftover hambone to make soup! If you’re substituting with boneless ham, you may need to reduce the pressure cooking time for a few minutes. Pineapples

For best results, we recommend purchasing an instant-read thermometer and warming your ham, regardless of size, until it reaches an internal temperature of 140°F. One thing I love about making your own ham is the fact that it can either be a delicious side dishes such as in a salad or with chips and then come Christmas time, it becomes its own delicious recipe and can be served with things such as a gorgeous mustard glaze or with dijon mustard on a platter, it is the perfect base for your favourite glaze. Whichever gammon joint you choose, just make sure it will fit in the slow cooker pot and adjust the cooking time for a larger joint. WaterYou can either serve the gammon straight from the slow cooker or add a glaze and cook it in an oven for about 5-10 minutes. Any longer than that your gammon will dry out. I tend to always glaze my ham but if you're making this recipe for a regular weeknight meal go then you can skip it, but it really is worth it! Gently melt the honey and butter in a small pan and add in the chopped rosemary. With a batch of homemade rolls, and not one but two potato recipes roasting in the oven, where will you ever find the space to cook a whole ham?
