Verminus Valour – Turns every skaven unit within 3” into a bodyguard. Very similar to the Skilled Manipulators battle trait, but doesn’t require the unit to have 3 or more models.

Blistrevous, the Living Cyst– what a wonderful name. The bearer adds 2” onto its move characteristic as well as re-rolling all hit rolls with all weapons that this character is armed with. Could be useful on a Verminlord Corruptor or Plague Furnace, maybe. However if there are any other Pestilens Heroes within 13” at the beginning of the Hero phase then this artefact is transferred to them instead, even ones that already have a relic so you’ll need to be more careful with placement so this doesn’t ping over to a Plague Priest who doesn’t really want or need it. C+ Redmaw Plague – This targets the nearest enemy hero within 13” and infects them for the rest of the battle. At the start of the combat phase, if that hero is within 3” of any enemy models and not within 3” of any of your models you can count it as a friendly model for that phase. There’s obviously a fair amount of play your opponent has with positioning to avoid this, but sometimes you are going to be able to engineer Arachaon to batter his own army and that’s hilarious.

Building an Age of Sigmar Skaven Army

Expand the dread territory of the Soulblight Dynasties with a vanguard box containing 29 miniatures. This bite-sized battalion is led by a vainglorious Vampire Lord, 20 Deathrattle Skeletons, five Blood Knights, and three monstrous Vargheists. Clans Skryre weapon teams are vital to protecting these large, key units. An opponent might want to charge those 60 Clanrats with something like Witch Aelves , but if there’s a Warpfire Thrower sitting just behind them, the prospect of a lot of mortal wounds from Unleash Hell before they get to fight might just make them think twice. The Brass Orb – One use item in hero phase; roll a dice and on a 6 the nearest enemy model is removed. A few armies do/have had this kind of item and while it can be hilarious, it’s not reliable at all. D

The ratmen use a steady stream of fodder to fight their wars and excel at constantly expanding their territory through sheer weight of numbers. When the time comes to strike, the skaven burst from tunnels through reality in seething tides. They utilize everything from peculiar devices, filthy magics, virulent toxins, mutated beasts, and even the daemonic avatars of the Horned Rat to tear down the works of civilisation. Their strength is in their nearly limitless supply of warriors and the accumulation of vast hordes of warpstone – solidified crystals of raw Chaos energy – to power both their sorcery and their technology. The Grey Seer on Screaming Bell is less brilliant. Once the centrepiece of the Skaven battleline, the bell now struggles to justify its inflated points cost. You get a two-spell caster and a lot of rules, but none of it quite adds up to a coherent unit. A couple of boxes of these serve a great core to a Cities of Sigmar force, and brave converters can take the extra Warden King and convert it into a Runelord for some anti caster potency and buff potential. Cheap, board-filling units. Few armies in Age of Sigmar can put more models on the board than Skaven. That said, they’re one of the most enjoyable armies to play, thanks to their unique chance-based rules, and their huge armies that simply intimidate the opposition.
