Description

Tzaangors are kind of an odd addition to the Warhammer universe. While Khorngors and Pestigors had been referenced frequently in Warhammer Fantasy, though Tzeentch-devoted beastmen had always gotten a bit shafted in comparison. That all changed with the big re-release of Warhammer Quest: Silver Tower in 2016, which added the game’s first plastic Tzaangor models and heralded the release of a full range of plastic Tzaangors usable in both Warhammer 40k and Warhammer Fantasy/Age of Sigmar. Since then, Tzaangors have been a major part of Tzeentch-dedicated armies on battlefields in both universes. Where to Read More

Chaos Cultists • Poxwalkers • Pestigor • Plague Zombies • Plague Ogryn • Thrall Wizard • Tzaangor • Tzaangor Enlightened • Tzaangor Shaman • Dark Disciple The Enlightened are those Tzaangor who have finally caught the attention of Tzeentch in their quest for knowledge. While most who draw the eye of Tzeentch are turned into abominable Chaos Spawn , a few are gifted with arcane weapons, strange artefacts, and maybe even constant mental communion with Tzeentch himself. These Enlightened wield divining spears, fatecaster greatbows or simply the chainswords and autopistols they fought with in their earlier lives in battle. The Start Collecting box contains 10 pink horrors, 3 screamers and 3 flamers which is enough to make minimum squads of each. The remainder gives you some versatility as you have a Herald of Tzeentch, an Exalted Flamer and a Chariot of Tzeentch. You can put the Herald on the Burning Chariot to give it a mount or put the Exalted Flamer on (Which makes it a Burning Chariot unit), leave the other one on foot. If you got 2 boxes, make one of each so you have some versatility. That’s all you have to do and you’ll have more than enough for 1k point games. When a Hero does a Ritual they must take D3 mortal wounds or assign it to a BOC unit within 3” before the action goes off (again, naturally, if you’re off the board you can’t delegate wounds elsewhere). If the Hero kills themselves in the process, it doesn’t work. Chariots gained a wound and some better offensive output with the upgrades that Bestigor weapons got. They now cause Mortal Wounds when they charge – you roll a number of dice equal to the Charge roll and on a 5+ (or 4+ for smaller infantry) they take a mortal wound. They went up almost 50% in points, but I feel like they’re worth a try to see if they can do some mortals with big charges. Razorgors

For the Changer of Ways

Finally, the previously cheapest unit of the warband is the one armed with Vulcarch. The bird allows him an interesting ability that for a Double prevents disengaging to one unit within 20”. No line of sight required either so in certain situations can be a life changer, and for a Double nonetheless. In serving Sorcerer masters, usually of the Thousand Sons Traitor Legion, they may earn the chance to elevate themselves above their earthly stations, but in truth such occasions are rare, for a streak of cruelty lurks within the warlike soul of every Tzaangor. Also, depending on whether you started with Daemons or Mortals, try mixing it up by adding a bit of the other, or swapping lists entirely. It allows a different playstyle which keeps the army interesting. After all, Tzeentch approves of those who don’t settle and are constantly aspiring for new ways to change up their life, shouldn’t you follow suit?

Of course, it wouldn’t be a Thousand Sons army if you didn’t have a host of mind-bending Cabbalistic Rituals to perform. While invulnerable saves and their newfound resistance to mortal wounds already make them pretty tough, The Braychange renders your Tzaangor atrociously difficult to put down for good. Centigors have always been weird to me – as centaurs they’re a fantasy staple, but they were mostly metal for a long time and then finecast, and they held a weird spot in the army. The army was already very mobile, so they just didn’t fit to me. They’re now Battleline if you take a Great Bray Shaman, and we’ve lost some mobility, so they might be nice for a splash in to take objectives. Malign Sorcery and Forbidden Power –Not a Tzeentch specific expansion but they include faction neutral endless spells. As Tzeentch is one of the most caster heavy armies, it can make the most use of them. Malign Sorcery has a ton of utility and is used as far up as the competitive level. Forbidden power isn’t as popular but still has some potentially useful spells within.Once the skin has been highlighted with Blue Horror, the end result is a very pale-looking Tzaangor. A glaze of Guilliman Blue was applied to the model’s extremities to enhance the colour and give the impression that its skin is shifting colour. The more Guilliman Blue you apply, the deeper the skin tone you’ll achieve. On this model we’ve concentrated the additional glazes on the lower legs, for a gradient of colour. Don’t let the latest Warhammer news slip through your hands like so much Rubric dust – sign up to the Warhammer Community newsletter and stay ahead of the curve, just as Tzeentch intended. To create an ethereal underglow effect below the Tzeentch disc, use a green paint, such as Warpstone Glow. Apply this paint carefully beneath the disc, allowing it to blend with the blue skin for a mystical appearance.

The new battletomes haven’t been announced, but they must surely be on the horizon. We’ll see soon enough. Curseling - Fatemaster - Gaunt Summoner of Tzeentch - Kairic Acolyte - Magister - Ogroid Thaumaturge - Tzaangor ( Warrior - Enlightened - Shaman - Skyfire) - Vulcharc Mortals are harder to know where to begin because you may be starting from different places. I’m going to assume you have the contents of an Aether War box, if you have the Battleforce box mentioned above, even better, you can still make use of this.

The Tzeentch Arcanites can be found mostly in 3 boxes, unfortunately there is no Start Collecting or other discounted box available at this time. While points for all BOC heroes have gone up, I do think these Rituals might make BOC generals think about taking more heroes overall so they can take advantage of them.

Tzaangor Host

Avian appreciators rest assured, there’s even more in store for your feathered friends. Warpmeld Pacts have access to the Manipulator of Reality Warlord Trait, allowing your sorcerous leader to navigate the roiling whorls of the empyrean, and shuffle up to three friendly Tzaangor after deployment. With the armor and shield, I used a pattern of Contrast Gryph-hound Orange, Contrast Blood Angel Red and the magical Contrast Iyanden Yellow. Tzaangor Shamans are the most exalted of their mutated kind. They are oracles and prophets, and they preach to their ilk atop flying Discs of Tzeentch. Their psychic mastery is born not of endless study, but of singular devotion to their god, and is unleashed upon their foes amidst ritual chants in the fathomless language of the Tzaangors.
