Description

The Kingston NV2 does reasonably well with Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker Official Benchmark sitting mid-table for all of the scene load results charts.

Price and use case scenario dictates why it is such a bland looking product. Now since this is a PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD, I am interested to see the thermals. Test Setup and Methodology

Extended capacities.

The 3DMark Storage Benchmark uses traces recorded from popular games and gaming-related activities to measure real-world gaming performance.

The NV2 has the highest temperature output of all the SSDs I’ve tested. Granted, that’s the hot spot – with the NAND themselves operating at just around 60 ºC at full load. Still, this is enough to warrant the use of a cooler – a passive one will do. It does not throttle though so that’s something to be jolly about. Features This lifespan value is an estimate of how long the SSD will last. Various factors can impact the actual lifespan, but lifespan estimates indicate how long you can expect the SSD to last. It's important to note that these values are estimates and can be affected by various factors such as usage patterns, environmental conditions, and other factors. Nonetheless, we feel these lifespan estimates provide a good indication of the duration you can expect the SSD to last before it starts showing signs of wear and tear. The overall average bandwidth figure of 441.29MB/s for the complete test run sees the drive in last position in the results chart. Kingston's NV2 drive is available in four capacities; 250GB, 500GB, 1TB (the drive we are reviewing) and the 2TB flagship drive. At the heart of the drive is a Silicon Motion SM2267XT 4-channel controller. It's a DRAM-less design, using Host Memory Buffer technology instead. Being an entry-level SSD, the Kingston NV2 range was launched in September 2022, with only a brief press release and little fanfare. This is in stark contrast to most high-end NVMe SSD releases, but not surprising considering the NV2’s budget nature. It uses Phison’s new PS5021-E21 controller with four flash channels, designed for DRAM-less operation, along with what we believe are TLC NAND memory chips (more on this later).

Kingston hasn't disclosed any official 4K random figures for the drive. The best results we saw came from a mix of data types. The best-read figure we saw, 201,561 IOPS came with the drive being tested with compressible data while the best write score of 401,239 IOPS came when the drive was dealing with incompressible data. During gameplay, games seldom write to your storage device. However, game files are written to your storage device during installation and game patches.
