Description

Fan Control is a stand-alone app. You can leave the files there for use further down the line, or delete them. Timer 0 (Pins 5,6) is identical to Timer 2, so we could apply the same settings that we used for it and get an extra output for a fourth fan; however, it is used for all timing functions such as delay, millis, etc. and touching it would cause everything that depends on this to behave erratically, including our Serial output. My code doesn't touch this timer. Components are identical to the 555 circuit but are labeled differently in this schematic: C1 = 680pF; C2 = 0.01 μF; C3 = 0.1 μF; C4 = 10 μF, polarized. There is also an extra resistor (R2) which has a value of 10K.) On the plus side, these fan controllers are a lot of fun and can be very useful if you regularly benchmark your system and require powerful cooling at the touch of a button (as I do). Here’s a short video which shows the capabilities of the 556 circuit when paired with some seriously powerful 120mm fans… The best way to read this is to use one of the Arduino pins that can do interrupts (2 and 3 on the Arduino Uno). I will use pin 2 in this example: #define PIN_SENSE 2 //where we connected the fan sense pin. Must be an interrupt capable pin (2 or 3 on Arduino Uno)

Setting the duty cycle of the signal to 30% will also result in a duty cycle of 30% for the power, as the large current is just an amplified replica of the tiny current (which is the signal). The Phanteks Universal Fan Controller is an interesting device. It comes with five four-pin fan headers for PWM fans but also includes three 3-pin headers for non-PWM fans that can receive PWM control when hooked to the controller. You can control even more fans if you use fan headers. DC fans are supplied with DC power from regulated DC supply or motherboard header pins. These fans are also called 3-pin fans, as they come with 3 pins: a supply pin (usually 12 V DC), a ground pin, and a signal pin. The Noctua NA-FC1 can deliver up to 3A maximum current, so having multiple high-RPM or RGB-lit fans won't be an issue. Users can choose between two modes, manual or automatic. This means PC builders can use PWM-based controls without having to use the motherboard's fan control software. On top of this, there's a No Stop mode which enables fine-tuning of fan speeds for near-silent operation. Since the application is ASUS-specific, you can only control the fan speed of the ASUS graphic card. ASUS AI Suite 3 uses Fan Xpert 4 to manage all the fans connected to your motherboard. This also includes all case fans that are connected to the motherboard. But, you should have an ASUS motherboard to access this feature. MSI Dragon Center (For Windows)

When the time comes to make a proper circuit using scary grown-up tools like a soldering iron and a pair of wire cutters, it is definitely worth your while planning the layout of your circuit once again and trying to make it as compact as you can. If you have space on your stripboard you might want to consider soldering a 4-pin fan header onto it to keep the controller tidy and practical.

Having a long history is usually a good thing. Especially for a customizable program with a clean user interface that is compatible with all versions of Windows. However, SpeedFan hasn’t been updated since 2015 and so it isn’t the best option for newer systems.

A: You want to avoid any "smart" control from your BIOS. Setting a fixed default speed, like 50%, works great for most people. Also keep an eye if your BIOS has PWM or DC mode on. One could work better for you depending on your setup.

The software is completely free to use but the developer (Rem0o on GitHub) does accept donations. And, considering that Rem0o was able to create a truly all-in-one fan control program where many other professional developers have come up short, it wouldn’t hurt to throw a donation their way. Fortunately, these circuits were never mainstream. Appliances such as air conditioners and refrigerators just ran at full speed all the time, making lots of noise, and wasting lots of energy because they had to cycle on and off frequently. https://github.com/brokenmass/Fancontrol.NzxtKraken to interface with NZXT Kraken AIO that are not yet supported by LibreHardwareMonitor for example Kraken X2 and Kraken X3 - new PID. See LHM PR Now before you allow yourself to become intimidated by the above schematic and all these different components, make sure you are taking a calculated approach to the process of putting the circuit together. The best thing to do is to take it one step at a time. Having done it myself (several times), these are the steps that I find most conducive to a hassle-free workflow:Computers have been using PWM-controlled fans for ages now (they're the ones with a 4 pin connector). This allows the BIOS to change the fan speed according to the current temperatures using a PWM signal instead of changing the voltage of the fan, which means that motherboards are cheaper to make (less voltage regulators), but also that fans are much easier to control, since DC motors won't even move below a certain voltage threshold. When the app fail to start due to sensor initialization issue, the sensor settings window will open The controller also comes with a fan speed remote but since it comes with only three speed presets, it’s better to connect the controller to a PWM fan header on the motherboard since you cannot use both at the same time. PWM fans are DC fans with an extra wire for PWM. PWM fans are 4-pin fans, where the fourth wire sends a PWM signal to the fan motor. The PWM signal is the control input of the PWM fan. The same efficiency rule that applies to resistors also applies to transistors— Their resistance results in wasted energy because they burn off some of it as heat. They act like heaters in that regard.

Note: SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) is a hard disk monitoring system that provides information on a drive’s status. Step 1: Organize Your Components and Print a Plan of the Circuit These are all of the components you need for the circuit HWMonitor is another program that has been around for quite a while. And during that time, it has distinguished itself and cultivated a userbase that keeps growing. HWMonitor does everything the other programs do and then some.DC voltage control is the method to vary DC fan speed and this can be implemented by incorporating resistances in the supply wire. The voltage drop across the series resistor reduces the voltage reaching the fan supply pin, automatically slowing the speed of the fan. If the resistor connected is a variable one, the fan speed can be varied until it stalls at a minimum threshold voltage. Nowadays, standalone fan controllers with knobs are available for this type of DC fan speed control. PWM Fans or 4-Pin Fans
