On the front of the mod is the fire button which is well placed – the original had a side mounted fire button which was a bit awkward. To fill the pod, remove the silicone plug that’s on its side. The filling hole is large enough to accommodate every style of nozzle, and even most glass droppers. Setting the device to boost power really improved the flavour and throat hit and this is my preferred setting. I would recommend this for new vapers who need a strong nic hit – but they might be put off by the coil change aspect – so not for complete technophobes. The shell is made of a hard-wearing but lightweight zinc alloy in aid to preserve the original condition for as long as possible. Visible on the outside are 4 main features: the fire button, airflow port, USB-C charging port and LED indicator. The airflow (found on the side of the pod) can be adjusted, to your ideal pull resistance, without the need of removing the pod.

The pod is refillable with up to 3ml (Standard) or 2ml ( TPD) of your own e-liquid via the side fill port. To vape you can either just inhale to trigger the automatic airflow sensor or press the fire button. When the pod is installed – the pod light allows you to just about see the e-liquid level at the side of the pod but most of the pod is obscured by the mod body. I found in the standard power mode this did perform well but felt like it needed slightly more “ ooomph“. The pod is held magnetically into the battery and there is a slight wiggle to it, but only if you move it by hand, it doesn’t flop about in normal use.The experience with this coil was similar to the 1.2ohm coil. It took a few refills before the flavour started to sing.

The Innokin Sceptre replacement coils have been designed for use with the Innokin Sceptre pod kit and Innokin Sceptre Tube kit. There are two versions of this coil available, to support mouth to lung vaping and restricted direct to lung vaping. Both versions of this coil will work best with a high PG e-liquid that's 50% PG or higher.The instructions in the main were pretty good, but yet again information on protections and fault conditions has not been included. Which is a shame as simple faults and the LED displays should be explained so the user can rectify. The Innokin Sceptre works with two different coils. The kit comes with both coils, giving you an opportunity to try both and choose your favourite. The original Sceptre was my first foray into a pod system, after 12 years, from using the original ecigs, through the first mods and pens, to the latest. I've always been fond of Innokin devices, from their first onwards, but I was never impressed by their coils, which always tasted metallic and didn't last long, so I tended to use their batteries with Smok tanks.

The charging time is ridiculous – 2 hours – surely with a USB Type C port there is the option for faster charging than this! Sceptre pods are easy to fill and the coils are easy to replace. Simply twist the bottom to open the pod and replace the coils. Reuse the Pod and replace the coil to save money and reduce plastic waste. In fact the colour accent on the honeycomb makes it look like some of the paint has chipped off the mod. The branding is quite minimal – with the Innokin logo on the rear and the Sceptre logo on the front diagonal “slash”.
